Been doing a lot of research on saddles since I started to look into hunting public land that’s walk in only if anyone has any tips or tricks to help out that would be great. I’m pretty certain that I’m buying a saddle this year just not sure what to get anything will help thanks.

Welcome from Maryland! You got plenty of time to get something to try out & it may take a saddle or two to find what you like.

Where in WV? I lived and hunted in Western MD, VA, and PA until I moved to NC in 2000. I hunted public land 75% of the time up North. In NC, I hunt PL exclusively. I learned long ago that my success on PL was greater when I learned to go where the average hunter wouldn’t. I used to avoid long hikes into the woods if it was an unreasonable drag out. Then I decided to learn how to skin and pack out. Being 70 years old, I did exactly that the past two years in PA. Hunting on PL can be rewarding, you kinda have to learn to hunt around others.

I’m up in the Charleston area I’m wanting a saddle for the public land down in the southern bow only counties

Welcome. I’m from PA and have been thinking about hunting those bow only counties but honestly I’m a little worried about my truck being vandalized. Do you know if there’s any truth to that or scare tactics to keep out of state boys away?

Spoke with the WV DNR last week trying to get a map that shows parking where I’m wanting to hunt he showed me a couple different gates and said these you’re running the risk of something happening to your truck and then showed me the areas that would be ok. Honestly I think most people wouldn’t mess with ya but there always seems to be a knucklehead that gives everyone a bad wrap.

Thanks so much! If I get serious enough about going down there I’ll contact the DNR and ask about it. Great idea.
