Help me not buy a cell cam

Correct, but test at home first. unless your woods are close.

Signal has been a pain for me, and I've passed up several spots I wanted to hang a camera because there wasn't good enough signal.

you do not pay Verizon or ATT. You pay spy point just for the pic plan you want.
You can find knock off Chinese antenna cables up to 20' for dirt cheap on ebay, I use them in spots that I can't even get cell reception on my phone but get enough for the cameras to work well. I spent maybe 25 on 4 and 2 replacement antennas.

Nope no payments to a carrier, spypoint is the best investment you can make into cell cams. I pay 100$ a year fpr the club membership, and it gives all 15 of my cameras 250 photos a month on the free plan. I only do the club thing because I have sp many of their cameras, paying for individual plans would end up being more then 100$ in the year!

Awww man....that is tempting. Does it matter if its a used Ebay cam or only new cam?

I buy almost all of mine both new and used from ebay, and I even had an issue with a used one not connecting and they replaced it with a new better model! New, used, eBay, their website, it doesn't matter where they're bought they'll work. I feel they have excellent customer service as well.

I picked one of these up and have it ready for the next time I move a camera. I'm good for the rest of this year.

For what it's worth I have had my first spypoint die on me. It was 2 years old. still works as a dumb camera but won't connect no matter what.

DON'T buy the Moultrie Delta. IMO spypoint is where its at if your wanting multiple cell cams.

I have 3 Spypoint micro LTE trailcams. One has the solar charging panels. Never had any issues with them. I've upgraded all of mine to the rechargeable lithium battery pack (the solar one comes with the lithium battery). I wait till they go on sale at Cabelas for a decent price before I buy them. After 3+ months, the solar charged one is still showing 100% battery! Any new ones I buy will be the solar ones, since you get the lithium battery with that, and total cost when on sale is a bit less than adding the battery to the the non-solar model.

The few times I've reached out to Customer Service, they were quick and helpful, though I haven't had any issues with the cameras.

I also signed up for their Insider's club...which has an annual fee, but gives you discounts on photo plans and accessory purchases, which has paid for itself. If you are a member of that club, you also get 250 photos per month per camera with no extra photo plan fee, which is nice. On my most active trailcam I'll bump it on a month to month basis to 1000 photos per month and then just cancel that when the hunting season is done.

I have found that in some of the spots I want to put the cams, like down in a valley far from a cell tower, I needed to get the extended antenna. I set up one camera in a gut where we hunt moose and bear in the back country, probably 10 km from the nearest tower, and with the extended antenna, was able to get a signal and photos transmitted. Kind of nice to be able to monitor one of our key bear/moose spots from a hundred miles away. Also got a pic of a cow moose passing through during the actual hunt, which let us know one was in our hunting area.

Love them! Let's me know to avoid stands that have no activity and thus not burn out the locations needlessly. And as others have mentioned, it's a blast to see what the cameras have picked up every morning, even if it's only squirrels and coons.

Do the SpyPoint have kill signal capabilities? Like if it got stolen, can Spypoint send a signal to the cam to make it a paperweight since each have their own serial number?

I realized this is not going to stop people from stealing it, but it would be some please to my soul to know they will not be able to use it.

I bought some cable locks for my cameras that are on public land.

aaand i bought the pair. told my wife "if anyones looking to get me a christmas present i want the brands to match, here's the link they're on sale right now wink winnk" so perhaps ill get a few more lol. 75 bucks apiece isn't terrible, hopefully i have good luck with them. now i'm asking myself "do oyu even know where you want to hang them? but i suppose any intel is good intel, better a camera in empty woods than a potential sit in the same spot.

Yes you can report it stolen and it will cancel the cellular plan. I assume the camera will still work as a dumb camera after that though.

For those with the solar option. You still need to go out there and clear the SD card if it gets full though. Mine has never been close to full but that though has crossed my mind. Can any of you comment on if that ever happened to you?

I have 5 spy points and was considering a delta. Can you share why you don't like it?

I can't speak to a delta, but I do have 15+ spypoints, and I have a few that I put out in early 2020using energizer lithium batteries and a 30g card, the one with the highest amount of space used is only at 15g used. And still shows 100% battery oddly. Maybe I'm the rare one but I've had nothing but positive experiences to this point.

I put this camera on a trail that I know deer use, I got 1 picture in a little over a month and I'm paying $5 month. I can get a spypoint for $20 more and not pay anything monthly.....

So I was test out browning camera and cell link cam adapters.
I used the spypoint cell cam adapter on my old browning. Joined their club and got 250 pics for free. It’s ok. The browning camera (non cell) always took great pics. It is limited to like 12 meg and I have tourched 3 of those cable wires. Don’t forget to flash the bios. I don’t pay for a plan.

Also purchased the $199 browning cell cam. Super reliable, but the pics and detection area is not as good as the non cell camera browning. When you request an HD pic it gets better, but sometimes you have to request the HD just to see if it has horns. The 2 things I like about their software is I can put a camera on pause or remove from my plan. Adding an extra camera after paying for the plan is cheap.
It’s all a toss up.
It’s to expensive to do the movies on cell.

@Nutterbuster I like mine but I would suggest getting the Nationwide option. From what I’ve read that option allows the camera to connect to the best cell service in the area.

You are a good hunter and everything you need as an apex predator is in your brain cells not your cell cam.

You don’t need real time notifications sent to your pocket via satellite providing exact location / direction / coordinates of your prey.

Does that help?

My spypoint pair arrived ahead of schedule today. Haven't bought much from academy before but dang, that was quick. Looks like I'll be leaving them in the woods tomorrow.
