Help. One in lock down

Yah man the heck with the contest can you climb down and close distance without spooking him?

I mean... Definitely shoot him from the saddle, contest points matter more than anything, what would you rather have in the freezer, meat or points?

Some of these boys carry so much rope, they'd never have to untether.

Well. After 3 hours. They got up and down 3 times. I grunted, I bleated, I snort Weezer. He never crossed that brush line. I ran my eye cam for a lot of it. I'll have to look at the footage tonight. Hope I got some. So I thought he her and headed around the hill. So I made my play. I was trying to get down and go sneak around the hill and see if I could catch em. Well, I had my bow on the ground, and looked over, and there he was. Looking my way. I had nothing to loose so I grunted up a storm and snort Weezed some more. I made it to the ground. Raked some leafs and grunted. He didn't come over. So slowly tried to make my way to him. It was so dry a d crunch. He heard me and bolted. Saw him on the other side if the hill in the field. He saw me again before I saw him and he went to the next county.
So I moved in some more to cover the area they where at. Hope someone else might stop by smelling around.

I think you should definitely wait them out. It might take a while but they should eventually get up. I would then try to get the doe to come your way, he will fallow. Even if it's only a few yards, that may be all you need to get a shot at him. Good luck bro, let us know how it plays out.

Did you throw the cell phone?

Seems like you tried all the other suggestions.

There was a hunter in MD or VA who got a big one (magazine article worthy). This is quite awhile ago. Threw rocks into thicket and deer jumped out.

Call the doe the buck will follow her. Use a fawn bleat. Fawn distress. Just one or two and see if her instincts kick in.

excellent tactic

used the other day for another reason

4 point bedded in front of my stand 15 yards away, didn't want to shoot him and wanted to get down and not spook him

i tried throwing granola bars at him but he didn't care, i tried grunting loudly at him and his eyes got big and his ears went back, then i tried a bunch of doe and fawn calls just with my mouth

a doe came in and he followed her off!

i didn't intend for that to happen, i just was trying to make noise at him that might get him to move off

i heard of people carrying a slingshot and marbles for this reason
I’m not kidding when I say they used to sell a sling shot and marbles filled with deer scent so you could shoot the marbles and they would break supposedly you used this so you didn’t get ground scent all over trying to put your scent upwind of your stand location.

reminds me of ol' dog the bounty hunter and his paint balls filled with pepper spray

also, imagine one of those breaking in your slingshot and just splattering your face with doe in heat....

It may have been a once in a life time moment. It was pretty cool..I hate the hind sight. Wish I would have, or could of. Hopefully If I get into something similar I'll be able to make a better pick. I probably should have stayed in the tree on that one..
The biggest thing that amazes me still. A big buck can just disappear into the brush and grass and such. Then re appear. Ghosts.
There is some more season left. So we might get to shake hands again yet.

Do bucks have preferred mating spots? Do you think on a similar wind he or another buck will try to bring another doe back in there? Should I waste a sit there again but adjust some to shoot that area?

You’ve got a deer you want to shoot 40 yards away, and you’re on the phone talking to us?

Ok I’ll play.

Step 1 - Nock an arrow.

Step 2 - throw your phone at him.

Step 3 - draw and shoot him.
I have heard stories of people throwing boots at deer to get them up.

There is a reason you see them in places you do not normally. They like their privacy when with a doe.

You strike up a conversation with a beautiful lady at a crowded bar.....how long you gonna stay?

I don't think you made a bad call by trying to get down. If I was in that situation I would have considered it. It probably would have depended on if I had wind for cover or if the ground was wet and I thought I could realistically close in another 20 yards. Also if they are in thick stuff could I even get a shot from the ground? In my experience a situation with a buck with a doe on lockdown is a low odds situation. It is one of the most exciting things to experience, but you're probably not going to get him. He has eyes for only that doe at the moment and unless she gets up and leads him by you, there isn't much else that will cause him to go to you. You have higher odds of another buck finding them and getting them on their feet and pushing them by you.

If you saw that action there I don't think another sit would be a waste. But that buck was there because the doe wanted to be.
