Hey duck hunters

Definitely federal.

For the most part you will never have to worry about it because federal agents aren’t cruising around looking to bust Joe the duck hunter. But, should you manage to get onto the federal agent’s radar you WILL be in trouble because there’s so many laws, mostly relating to the handling of birds that have been reduced to the bag, that simply aren’t common knowledge.

Here’s a pic after a nice hunt where my son and I both killed limits....

....great hunt, even got check by local DNR and all was well, but that picture is enough to get a couple of tickets written by a federal agent.
As an avid duck killer and pic taker, you have me very curious. I'd love to hear that story.

@kelly.jayp, add this to the list if ya ain't got it already: boot dryers. And either buy or build wader dryer attachments. I'm sitting here mucking with decoys for tomorrow (5 hours of sleep again tonight...oh boy!) and looking at what's gonna be a toasty-dry pair of yoders for tomorrow's hunt. Can't beat it.

Accounted for. Picked up a Peet’s double this summer for deer season and just need some pvc for the waders man I have been using the crap out of that thing this year after several rainy sits.

hey guys - whats a good shot load for ducks - I know non-lead, but anything you guys recommend specifically? For central NC area? I see it can be anywhere from 3 - 6 and seems like 3" shells are typical. He'd be using my 12 gauge

Apex TSS...I know that is a shocker coming from me, you know how much I hate it for turkeys :)

you sir are trying to drain me dry LOL

I shoot cheap #1 shot for almost everything except teal they get #4 shot haven’t had one complain about it when it’s decoying yet lol.

2-3/4” #6 lead
But if you want to be in good graces with the law dogs. Federal speed shok (blue box) or Rios 3” #2s or 4s from Rogers

Folks will argue til the cows come home about #2 vs #4 steel...

So shoot #3s and be cool. As fast as you can find them with as much shot as you can. 3' shells with 1 3/8oz of shot moving at 1,550fps will make the angels sing.

What 1 3/8oz 3” you shooting moving at 1550fps? I’d like some of those as long as they aren’t expensive.

Supposedly that's the specs on the stuff my buddy home brews. Hevi-steel hits that if memory serves, but not sure if it's found in #3. I'm personally fine with #4 since I shoot woodies pretty much exclusively. Rio's steel is 1 1/4 and 1550, and I can find it for lime $10 a box.

If I buy from a big box store, I try to max out oz weight (pellet count) and fps (powder). Bigger is definitely mo'betta to me.

Got ya. Didn’t think there was much commercially available in the non toxic category that’s hit 1550fps packing 1 3/8oz that wasn’t $20 a box. I usually opt for more shot when I can. I like more pellets than worrying about max speed.

Same. But steel loses azz so quickly I like to start with as much as I can, especially with smaller shot. Only so much room in a 3" hull though, and I ain't quite at the point where I'm willing to fling 3.5s at woodies.

Here’s a rainy day Atlantic flyway limit of mallards from this morning on a walk in hunt killed with $10/box Winchester #4’s.....
