Hickory Creek Koolaid

Maybe there was a minor redesign?… with some compounds you loosen those just a bit before moving limb bolts which is why I asked… I got this last week.

Would you guys recommend these as an option for youth hunters? 10-14??
After shooting it only a very few times yes. The only reason my 7 yo isn't shooting it already is because her arms aren't quite long enough to shoulder it and comfortably grab both handles yet. Although I think some people take the "stock" off and rest the square bar on top of their shoulder a bit.

I had originally ordered HC last year and then decided I didn’t need it so I cancelled my order. After reading back through this thread I ordered another and it arrived on Saturday. The stock scope was crap so I put on a new Excalibur Dead Zone that I’ve had laying on my bench for 6+ years. I got that all sighted in with the stock arrows and then remembered why I never used that scope…no illuminated dot! So I went and ordered a Vortex Crossfire for it which is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I’ve cut down some 300 spine Easton Aftermath (450gr) and refleched them this morning. Added a three arrow Tightspot, that gets the quiver out of the way to be able to cock it.

Tomorrow I’ll hit the range in the morning and get the new scope dialed in and then hopefully the woods tomorrow evening. I can’t wait to use this thing!

*the only issue I have is that it did not come with a trigger guard and after emailing the company they made it seem like I was the idiot and that it was fault that it didn’t come with one. This should be a no brainer for the company to send out a new one asap, which they are because it’s a safety item!20D83CB1-FF6A-4615-ABD4-93482EAD2F31.jpeg

I received mine a couple weeks ago. Bought a dozen Deer Creek Arrows and turned the draw weight up to 150 from the shipped 125 lbs. . Doesn't seen to be that much harder to cock. I sighted it in and I'm shooting pretty good to 30 yards. Going to change the stock scope with a Sig Romeo 5 red dot after Christmas. I will take it with me tomorrow evening to fill a doe tag.

Pics for voyeurs.

First attempt to get off the ground was a fail on Saturday… allowed myself an hour to dial the scope in, and carefully tweaking that thing on the rail ate up that time and more, then pulled two inserts out of the stock arrows retrieving broadheads from the target. Now there’s a Ramcat I gotta dig out of a foam target. Also, does anybody get a faint gunpowder smell at the shot? I imagine maybe that’s mentioned somewhere 35 pages back. Vortex red dot on my Christmas list, freezer still empty, mild panic time but the deer are still there.

Yep, I get a smell when the bow is shot. I thought I was nuts at first. Kinda cross between some industrial smell and ozone.

Had some gift cards so I went to the local Bass Pro to spend. Bought a vortex cross fire 2 red dot. I was surprised how well it fit my mini. I mounted it, took it outside. Shot it at 10 yards and hit the center of the dot. Back at 20 center of dot. 30 yards, an inch low. Needless to say ,I like it alot. Didn't need to make any adjustment to the sight at all. You view some of the limb through the sight but not a big deal. I originally was looking at the Sig Romeo 5, but they had none in stock. Now I need to try it out Monday evening in the woods.

I think it’s the best option available for the mini, given the ability to dim it very low, price, warranty.

Good luck!

I recommend sighting it in for 30 yards. Here's why:

If most of your hunts are from a tree, this will help you compensate for angle. At 10 yds, it will be an inch or two high, but you will want to hit a little higher than normal with a steep downward angle so that you get a high entry and low exit. The further away the target is, the less the angle matters. At 30 yards, the angle is almost a non-factor, and you'll be hitting exactly where you aim.

Plus, sighting for 30 yds make the left-to-right drift of the Kentucky windage less noticable. Try it and see what you think...
