Hickory Creek Koolaid

In case it helps someone else, the 3x scope does not have any issue with seeing the bow in field of view. Even when moved back pretty far, still don't even get a glimpse of it. When looking through both the stock scope and the Nikon, the zoom level seems to be the same. The difference in clarity/sharpness and amount of light transmission between the two is noticeable. Again, maybe I just got a bad one. About every 10 shots I have to re-screw tight the objective and/or eyepiece on the stock one. Anyone else have this issue?

@sokraski - Good to know - thanks for sharing that. If I'm unhappy with the stock scope, I'll be hunting for a better one.

Looking to upgrade the scope on the Mini. What are we shooting other than the stock scope?

Thanks

Pretty new to mix and matching arrows and broadheads.

Got a new pack of arrows from HC. They are DCA Hunters. Mini was zeroed in with the Victory V forces he previously sold and 125gr field tips.

Would change in arrow or broadhead from one shooting session to the next make the arrow go way left. Like a foot and a half left?

My shooting time is limited, and it’s a little frustrating busting broadheads and digging shots out of the back stop.

Starting at 20 yds. Had previously zeroed at 30. Now way left. Mini sits in one place I disturbed between shooting sessions.

All scope and rest screws still tight?
If you shoot first one then the other the new ones always go left?

checked tightness before first shot. all good. first arrow of the night was way left.

previous shooting session ended with bullseye at 30 yds.

difference was new broadhead same weight

It must be spine problem if one hits bull then the other hits left.

If you do not have the correct arrow spine for your bow set up, you are going to get erratic arrow flight and poor shooting groups. ... An under-spined arrow will veer right, while an arrow that is too stiff will favor slightly left.

I’m shooting the stock arrows Hickory Creek offers. 125 gr field points. 125 Gr WASP and Kudu Contour Plus.

Thought was to get two sets of broadheads to figure it out.

I’ll go back to field points and start over since they are less expensive that the broadheads.

I bought my mini about a month ago after stumbling across this thread. I was looking to upgrade from an old heavy Barnett. I still can't get over how light and nimble it is to shoot. I've shoot the bow 3 different times trying to get any kind of accuracy out of the bow. I've been speaking with Jerry, who is a pleasure to deal with, and has suggested some different things to try. Mainly not holding onto the bow tightly and applying too much pressure into my shoulder. He thought my scope might have been at fault, but after putting on an old shotgun scope my lack of tight groups remained.

Now i'm wondering if it is an arrow/fetching problem. Does anyone know when he switched to the DCA arrows? But I sent the bow back to Jerry to see what's going on. He's standing behind his product and is taking care of me. I'm hoping to get this issue resolved, because man it's a sweet little bow.

Read Post #151. You guys are experiencing the same problems that I have been reporting. My bow was zeroed in last weak in TN. Drove to MI and shot bow. Now shooting 6 inches low. Bought new scope today and we will report back tomorrow. I have no idea what is going on. Heavy D keep me informed. I had to send mine original bow back also. I'm hoping its now a cheap scope issue.

Hmm I haven’t shot mine since spring and only field points. It was good then. I will have to check mine out. My Excalibur micro is always dead on.

I was going to shoot some broad heads next week

So refletching did not work?

I had a horrible problem with broad heads hitting 3 to 6 inches right of where field points hit the target with the DCA straight fletched arrows. I fletched them right and left helical and got that problem under control. Now I believe my scope will not hold zero. At this point, I have no confidence with taking this bow to the woods. Further, I cannot get any sense of consistency from day to day shooting this bow.

Fletching got the flight better and now hopefully a $170 scope will get it closer to the woods. This is a work in progress.

Update:

Zeroed it back with field tips on old and new arrows, then tried the Kudu 125s on the new DCA arrow that came apart previously. Hit about 5-6 inches left, adjusted scope and its on now. 3 consistent groups. Is it possible that not having the vanes aligned properly interfered previously with the biscuit? New to all this. Used to a scope and rail and prepackaged excalibur bolts and broadheads. This session I made sure to align the odd colored vane outward each time. Not sure I did that before.

Next I tried the 125 WASPS on the same arrow. Went far left. Decided that I'm shooting Kudus since I don't feel like figuring that out since they were half the cost of the Kudu. Will a change in broadhead cause that much of a difference in flight at 20 yards?

Did you get it shooting straight

So, changed out the scope. Really like the scope, big improvement over stock scope. With that being said, I sighted in the new scope and the groups were consistent horizontally. But vertical, not so much. I cannot get consistent groups vertically. I believe it has to do with the variance in where the bow bolts together. I have been told that when cocked the bow will line up the same every time. I'm not so sure that is the case and think that the up and down, vertical, movement is effecting the accuracy of the bow. But what do I know.

I also believe that the Deer Crossing Arrows with straight fletching is causing broad heads to fly left or right of field tips. That problem has been corrected with my set up when shooting left or right helical fletched arrows. I find no reason to shoot straight fletched arrows with this bow.

I have been told to lock the bow down with a 5/16 (18 thread) bolt. I will try that to get the groups consistent. Other owners on the forum have used a bolt to lock it together with good results. At this point in the journey, I will continue to try and get this bow shooting consistently.

At this point and time, I cannot take this bow to the woods.
