I just finished tuning some new arrows for my 40lb Sanlida royal x8 longbow. TAW is 400 grains with a 25.4 foc they fly awesome. You guys think its too much foc? I like a heavy arrow but these 400 grain high foc sure shoot good. Should I not worry and hunt with this setup ? Your thoughts...

When I tried to increase my foc using steel inserts, I found that my arrow drop between 10 yards and 20 yards was excessive. Another 5 yards and those arrows really droped. That made it harder for me to shoot instinctively.
I am currently shooting a 45lb Buffalo. TAW is 570 gr with a foc of 17%.

Just a reminder, it's high gpp not high FOC that increases arrow drop.

To the OP - if it flies right, go for it.

Sorry bud I gotta disagree a little.

Yeah if you have two arrows that are the same weight, the higher FOC arrow is going to drop more at distance. But it could very well be the better flying arrow. Like most things archery, the answer is usually somewhere in the middle and depends highly on the bow and arrow setups being used.

Wait.. how did you get a 400gr arrow with 25% FOC?
I was wondering the same thing so I did some math on FOC calcs. So many variables but It’s possible. You’ve gotta have a decently light gpi arrow (6-7.5) and 200+ gr out front.
