Looking at an all-around boot for hunting and hiking. I do more walking and scouting than I do sitting so I typically put some miles on a boot (for whitetail at least). I used the Danner Vital Hunting boot last season, but they feel stiff and heavy.
Looking for something that’s waterproof and comfortable enough to cover some ground in, possibly a mid hiker like a Salomon or something. Anyone using a hiking shoe for hunting have any suggestions?

Keen targhee boots are amazing once you break them in and they carry a 1 year warranty. I had a pair where the stitches started coming apart at month 11 and keen gave me credit on their website for a replacement pair. I wear them every day to work in and I usually scout in them. Best boot I have ever owned, they usually last about 18 months. I used ariat boots for work before keens and they always wore out in 6 months.

Timberline Mt. Maddsen. I got a pair after my wife only had good things to say about hers following a five-day backpacking trek in Denali NP in Alaska. (This coming from the woman who despises all footwear and only wears flip flips when hiking in the woods… if she has to.) I love my pair. I put on a good chunk of miles hiking daily in some rugged desert terrain out west this spring, and found them to be very comfortable, flexible, and protect your feet. Didn’t even sweat that much despite being a waterproof leather boot in 90° heat, so they breathe well. (This coming from the dude on the other end of the spectrum who is pretty picky about his footwear.) All honesty, I haven’t had to chance to try them in freezing temps or deep snow yet (only being midrise hikers you might want to pair them with some gaiters). But I’ve worn them on some spring and early fall hunts and scouts (PA woods) and loved ‘em. I know as far as hardcore backcountry hikers, the Timberline brand doesn’t make the short list of cool-kid boots but then the prices don’t have that sticker shock either.

I have a couple hundred miles on my Salomon quest 4d 3 gtx and I really like them. I've heard after awhile the Gore-tex liner starts to break down, but I haven't experienced that yet. I'd recommend trying a handfull and seeing what your feet like.

I’ve been looking into these.
I planned to go try some on at lunch.
Ton of good reviews.

Picked up some Oboz Bridger Mid Waterproof hiking books today.
We’ll see how well they work.

Went out for a 6 mile scouting session the other day to work on breaking these in and I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they were.

I bought that boot this summer. On top of wishing I had gotten a half size larger or a wide, I wish I had purchased the non-gore-tex version. Both boots already leak. I'd say i have roughly the same mileage as you.

I have never had gore-tex footwear last more than a season. I would have purchased the non-waterproof quest but they were out at the time and I wanted something now. The fact that they leak isn't a big deal (wear rubber boots in the swamp and on the river and bought these for hill-country) but they're hotter and were pricier than they needed to be.

Same here, favorite boot to date for putting on a lot of miles. I'm super bummed, I just broke one of the hooks on mine, probably don't even have 100 miles. Hoping REI will fix or replace them. Had to go to my backup lowa camino's this past weekend and my feet hate them.

Gore-Tex has a lifetime waterproof warranty. I had a pair of Danner Pronghorns I was complaining about at deer camp one year.
My buddy told be about Gore’s warranty. I googled their warranty phone number, and was pleased at how easy the whole process was.
They wanted pictures of the boot, and then emailed me back saying the needed the boot shipped to them for testing. They wanted to ensure it was in fact, their liner, not the boot.
they told me that they would have to destroy the boot to do this, I was fine with that, they were useless to me leaking.
few days later, I received another email with a with a link to the new boots they had shipped from big box retailer.
took like 2 weeks from the initial phone call to receive a brand new set.
With this interaction, they have sold me boots for the rest of my days.
Hope this helps.

Good info to know about the Gore-Tex warranty. Also I believe Salomon has a two year warranty.
