Pretty bummed out. Had some deer out in the yard. We able to get up to about 23yrds. Shot a nice doe. She jumped and arrow hit her low. Possibly clipped the leg. Not sure. White fat on the arrow. Arrow really deflected when she jumped, like her leg moved it. Little bit of white hair. She ran off 50-60 yards than lost sight. Came back later, tracked a good blood trail 350 yards. But had to stop when I reached the no hunter land. Lot of light colored blood. No bubbles. Pretty easy to trail. But went into the doesn't like hunter property. She might bleed out. Or she might stop and make it. It was starting to slow down some. But couldn't follow any more. :disappointed:

She’ll be fine they got a lot of blood. When an animal bleeds to death it is a very rapid and dramatic experience. Don’t ask me how I know.

Yeah, I hate that. It's even worse when it's other hunters saying no passage. You'd think there would be some mutual respect for the animal.

I think the fat on the arrow is worth a little discussion if some experienced forum members want to weigh in. I rarely hear it talked about. I understand brisket hits often cause that. Anyone have experience with the fat and want to share?

It always sucks to wound one and have to wonder what the outcome will be. I agree with the sentiment that she will likely be just fine, brisket shots are very rarely fatal.

I just want to clarify this statement, I don't think it is "other hunters" not allowing passage.... .it sounds like an area where the owners do not allow any hunting or hunters to go on their property for whatever reason or they are anti hunters. But I agree, you would think out of mutual respect for the animal, they would allow the hunter to track and recover his deer.

You are correct about Matt's situation. I'm saying what's worse than that is when hunters won't let you cross property to follow through on a track track/retrieve an animal on their private. Has happened to me and others I know. Product of the big buck craze and just poor morals (yikes, theres that word), imo.

I feel for you. Lost a decent buck this year on a one lung shot. Put on 12 miles the next day grid searching after it rained over night. My first lost animal while bow hunting. :pensive:

One thing OP didn't mention was how she was standing and where expected entry/exit would have been? I had a buck quartered severely away a few years ago. I didn't see where my arrow hit and when I checked the arrow it was absolutely coated in fat. Did not feel good about it and it took a bit for the blood to get going. Found the deer and the shot was close to perfect. Entry behind the last rib and out through his chest/brisket. Liver/one lung/heart and he ran about 100 yards. That fat can be deceiving and can block blood flow for a bit. Sounds like blood wasn't the issue for the OP. My guess is she was broadside and he hit forward. Nothing vital but still decent blood from all the veins in that area.

Pretty sure I just saw her. Same group of 5 was out up on the hill. I couldn't get a good look at the side I shot at her from. But looks like the same group she was with.
@Hunter260 I was shooting 200gr Massaias. Its trashed now btw. After her skipped off the gravel road, few trees and then some block that was there. Not sure if I will be able to re sharpen that.

Definitely confirmed she is still alive this morning. Good look up on the hill. She was standing there with the sun on her, and could still see the blood stain. Right behind the legs, and on the bottom. She was acting like nothing was wrong. Feeding away. Tuff animals they are.
