I bought a 5’x10’ flat bed trailer, ground off some of the rail section and built this bad boy. I flex sealed the frame on the bottom and then painted the exterior. I can pull it back off to use as a regular trailer if need be. All in all it ran me about $2000 to build it. All solar with a battery bank, I can run about 6 days before I beat the solars ability to recharge the batteries. 1.5” insulation all the way around.

I took videos while I built but didn’t post anywhere. I’m happy to report that it’s totally built and sleeps great! The full size bed is nice. It’ll be real nice with a good sleeping bag or perhaps a mr buddy heater this winter.

I’d love to see an interior/exterior walk around of it.

Yeah you crawl in it to sleep. There’s a hatch on the back for cooking. It basically amounts to a pull behind tent. But better insulation and more comfort.
Better gas mileage as well. Great idea.

I like it, nice and simple! Something like this has been on my to do list for a long time I have a trailer, I should just by some wood and throw it together.

If you look online you can find plans. I think I paid 5 bucks for a download. I used it roughly but I did a lot of modifications in terms of width and length.

How does it hold up in the rain? My problem is I would most likely have to store it outside and I’m worried about water proofing.

At all of the points where I had to make joints I sealed it up really well with liquid nails and wood epoxy. So far, it has done fine in terms of waterproofing. I intend to pull all of the trim off and do poor man’s fiberglass on the entire outside. That is just a layer of waterproof wood glue covered with canvas and then waterproof wood glue rolled over it. Great way to seal it as far as I can tell.

Nice work! I’ve got a 4x6 trailer I’m thinking of turning into one. Going to build a 5x9 “camper” that will lay on top of the railing and mount. Also thinking of building some pullout drawers for inside the 4x6 bed.
