Homemade Saddle - Optimal Comfort

Making a second seat/saddle, better birch plywood and 1/4” amsteel blue instead of webbing.

My plan is to have a more refined, polished version this go around. The other will be my backup. Giving it a little camo look this time too.

These “seats” really are more comfortable than saddles, for me. There just aren’t any weird pressure points like with most saddles. With the addition of a little foam padding, they stay much warmer than fabric too. I’ll NEVER go back to traditional saddle again.

This may give you some ideas.
Yes! This is very much the exact idea, albeit more safety conscious with added harness straps.

I’m telling you though, this firm seat aspect, just like mine, is so comfy.

This is an awesome idea! I think id back it up with a fall harness of some kind but this is an awesome low budget build and looks fairly comfortable

I made something yesterday. I tried it out today. It worked pretty well after I added the retention straps to the back of the saddle. I got this cutting board for $8, used it, and cut it down. I’m trying to decide how I can make it lighter. I think if I go with some Baltic Birch, I can shave it down another 1.5-2lbs. Currently, as it sits, it weighs just under 6lbs.
I’m gonna try sitting in it and see how it feels, and then I think I'll build a tree fork system similar to the JX3.

Interesting ideas.

The simple/easy route for a safety harness on these would be the XOP Holiday attached to the same tether.

yeah, that was my idea either using the XOP holiday or the Killderr

With my Cruzr XC as it came from the factory I experience zero hip pinch and all day comfort.
Other than being a little bulky on the walk in there's nothing else I'm looking for in a saddle. Still, I might make one of these to fool around with.
