Hot meal while in the Saddle

I usually just take a pb&j for all day sits, but I'm not gonna lie, that looks interesting. Not sure if it's still too much fiddle factor up on a tree, but I might give that a shot and see how it goes.

I've used these for all day sits in the cold. This and a 20oz bottle of water is enough to heat up food to (almost) too hot and the left over water is used with the gatorade powder in the pack. Don't use them very often, but if I'm going far in on public all day, it sure is nice to eat hot food.

As someone who has done this before let me say this;
* There is decent amount of “fiddle factor”
* There is a decent amount of sound
* There is a decent amount of smell.
* There is a decent chance of a mishap resulting in you being in a tree and suffering.

Go to EWO or Amazon, buy a Zojorushi thermos and fill it with boiling water and take that with you then mix what you need. I eat a LOT of such meals and this method is more than adequate.

Anyone found or used a small shelf attached to the tree to run a backpacking stove to boil water? I have an MSR stove and a Jetboil and was looking for something to set the stove on to boil water to make a hot meal

Don't topple it over into your nuts!

I agree with the others that a thermos is the way to go. I use a yeti coffee thermos for coffee and it keeps it hot until after lunchtime easily. I also feel like it’s worth mentioning that it helps to pre-heat the thermos in order to reduce the amount of heat loss from the final liquid that you add.

Take control of your body and fast. It’s one of the more freeing things I have ever done.

If that’s not an option I would go thermos all the way. I use mine for lunch on the job site often.
Spot on. Fat adapted metabolism is awesome and freeing. I actually perform better on trail runs when totally fasted and running on fat.

If you're going to cook food, why not just climb down and do it on the ground and then climb back up? I just bring a thermos with soup (chicken and stars is the most drinkable non-bisqye soup I've found so far) or broth. I typically use an rtic screw top bottle and burn my mouth regularly in the tree not waiting for it to cool down 6+ hrs after filling it.

I do not consider myself a clumsy person, but monkeying around with fire and boiling water, while suspended in a tree with lethal items, isn't something that appeals to me. Seems like a perfect opportunity to hang with Mr. Murphy.

If you ARE in a tree monkeying around with fire and boiling water, and some sort of packet or container with the food that needs boiled, then eating and cleaning/packing back up, do you really think you will have a shot opportunity? Personally, I'd get down. You do you though.

I've read on here peeps pooping in a Ziploc bag while elevated in a saddle...... If they can do that, u could probably cook a 5 course meal with little to no problems.... Just mind the milkweed floaters and be sure and wash ur hands

I agree with some of the others...lower weapon, rappel down, cook, eat, poop, climb back up, nap, snore, hunt

Stanley make a thermos specific for foods/soups. Personally I'll take that hot cup of coffee over that hot meal unless I'm staying overnight.

I workout at 5am fasted but I would never leave the house for an all day hunt with no food. I used some mountain house meals this year with my MSR stove but normally just pack a sandwich and some snacks in a ziplock bag to avoid the sound of wrappers.
Did see this on instaface and thought it was cool concept.

That is what I meant when I posted you could make it with kydex and a squirrel step.
