How have you modified the predator?

Combination of bad weather and the whole family being sick at once kept me inside for a few days, did let me update my predator though. Aluminum primer, spray on bedliner, sponge camo and flat clear coat. Tried to replicate Sitka's elevated II and burnt orange logo. View attachment 9614View attachment 9615
Man that looks dang good. Could you tell the type of paint and colors u used a type of bed liner cause I wanna do same thing. Thanks

I did the same thing he did. Here's what I wrote up in an earlier post. Good luck

"The exact colors Slipnslide recommended. Dude nailed it. I put down the primer first and then coated with the bed liner. Like I said before, I don't think the bed liner is necessary but I would get just a black layer down as a base. I think having it down first made it easy to get the camo as light as I wanted it to be by using the remaining colors to cover the black. This is the bed liner I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CT49AS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then we alternated between the rest of the colors and using the primer for white

Brown: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y0N2NFS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Fossil: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BWORX6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Coastal Gray: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716BJL2S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Painted the letters with some orange I had laying around and then clear coated after everything dried

Thanks @Slipnslide for the inspiration. Had my 2 year old help me out so it’s a little blotchier and less detailed (especially in the tight spots) than I’d like but thinking of him every time I step on it will be well worth it. And it still looks pretty sweet I do believe.

Started with the primer

Added the truck bed liner.. agreed with the later comments in this thread and probably wouldn’t do this again

Then attacked with a sea sponge

After some drying and a couple clear coats

I’ll reassemble in a few days

@hokiehunter373 - what did you use to cut in the lettering? I just finished mine and tried with a Q-Tip, which was too large. Any suggestions?

You could use the same word 'bore', but change the ending from 'ing' to 'ed', and you'll be painting before you know it lol. I was just stir crazy, read this thread and it seemed cool. Actually a fun project.

I will say ...I'm FINISHED trying to do the letters lol. Tried three brushes, qtips and my impatience can't make the cuts ha!

Is there anyway to permanently attach the strap on one side of the button? I was thinking maybe a zip tie? With it being loose on both sides I see me getting to the top then dropping the strap. LOL!

I use a zip tie. Works well.

Here is the finished product ...again, less the orange letters! The colors were on point so thanks for the recommendations!

Process - I painted each piece individually, clear coated, then reassembled.

Do Again - If I were doing it again, I'd get it 90% painted, reassemble to ensure matching looks good, then clear coat as a completed platform

Only thing I’ve done to mine is add some bicycle tube to the buckle to dampen noise and added a loop of paracord for hanging from an S-Biner while climbing. A little flat green paint but nothing noteworthy. The bike tube on the buckle helps a ton with accidental clinks.

I've personally found while the paint, bedliner, clear coat, etc. looks great it's a waste of time. As soon as I hunted the first morning and stood on the platform with clear coat I could hear my boots squeak.
So all the paint did was end up adding a little weight because I ended up hockey taping the platform. No noise at all and it actually keeps my hands from getting cold while setting up. Used black hockey tape and few small pieces of white athletic tape to mark the outer edges so I could see better at low light.

Yep. I painted mine and just won’t hold on something that gets used that way!!
