How have you modified the predator?

I’m sure the Dan O bracket works well maybe even better but I’ve hunted all season from my Gen 2 predator and never had an issue with biting into the tree.

Same here. Love mine!

Yeah nothing wrong with the predator!! I just always liked LW bat wing bracket and didn't want it to move and have a gap with side to side movement. DanO bracket is more like the LW and now Tethrd is even making one now.

I added a piece of carpet to the topside of my platform, cut to match the platform & used zip ties to fasten it. I did this out of desperation as my feet would end up solid blocks of ice within 2 hours in 15-30 deg weather.

I wear oversized Alpha Burley boots, superfeet insoles. liner socks, & a pair of expensive heavy duty wool socks. I spray my feet with no scent anti persperant before hand & put a pair of disposable boot/toe warmers in the fronts of the boots.

I can handle frozen feet but when they get to the point I can no longer tell if they are connected to my body, i get concerned about my ability to safely climb out of a tree, especially after dark.

The carpet did wonders 4 all day sits, but i think i need to get a pair of boots with more insulation this off season.

Any recommendations welcome!

Great topic, great info!

What is the purpose of the 550 cord on the front edge? Doesn't that take away from the abililty to grip the boot when you are leaning?

It keeps your boots from sticking on the edges and making noise. First time I hunted with the Predator I had a doe walking into range, went to reposition for the shot and the edge stuck in my boot and made noise. 15 minutes of blowing and that was the end of that hunt. Haven’t had any problems with traction after putting on the cord.

The DanO standoff isn’t necessary, but I’ve found it’s more than worth the $16 especially on soft bark or irregular shaped trees.

i hunted 3 months out of mine never had side to side issues, never had to reset the platform, never had to tighten or felt like it was pulling from the tree. All stock. Only mods where paint and stealth strips. There was a video on how to set the platform floating around here and on YouTube. Long story short sinch the platform strap tight, push down on the top of the post , some said step on it than cam over the platform. This is only recommended on the gen 2 platform. Works like a charm.

The side to side movement is in the bracket on the post the platform didn't move on tree. I just like it to fit tight like on my LW stand the predator is awesome platform out of the box just making it better for me.

Love the look of the Predator! Can you explain the process and material used. How's the durability - meaning does the paint stay on or do you have to touchup / repaint ever year. Is the platform quite? I read in an earlier post that the platform looks great but is noisy as you reposition your feet on the cleared painted platform and the fix for the squeak was to use hockey tap. Does the sand texture paint fix that issue? Also I've seen some use paracord wrapped around the edge as your boots will get stuck on the edge with out paracord -opinion? What's the process of correctly lacing the edge with paracord if this is preferred. I just received my predator and with time on my hand now would like to mod it up!

I hunted with it bare metal last year so next season will test the wear. The sand texture was just to give extra grip, not that I’ve ever needed it, but couldn’t hurt. Mine has never squeaked or popped. When I reassembled it, I did put some bowstring lube/wax in the holes and on the bolts and plastic washers because that’s what it seemed like was there when I disassembled it.

Just finished under coating and painting my Predator Platform. I added the rope as a buffer between the post and the platform bottom.

The exact colors Slipnslide recommended. Dude nailed it. I put down the primer first and then coated with the bed liner. Like I said before, I don't think the bed liner is necessary but I would get just a black layer down as a base. I think having it down first made it easy to get the camo as light as I wanted it to be by using the remaining colors to cover the black. This is the bed liner I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CT49AS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then we alternated between the rest of the colors and using the primer for white

Primer/white: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006ZKMKSO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Brown: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y0N2NFS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Fossil: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BWORX6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Coastal Gray: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716BJL2S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Painted the letters with some orange I had laying around and then clear coated after everything dried

@hokiehunter373 how long did you wait to apply the clear coat?
