How have you modified the predator?

Do you have a squirrel step on the platform strap? Do you have pics of that on a tree? Do you think it would be better at the same height as the platform?

I do; I don’t; and no. Lol. I’ll try to find a tree later and snap a pic, it’s rainy wet right now.

I thought I wanted it on the same level, but after having it higher than seems to be beneficial when it’s farther around on the back of the tree or maybe on a big tree because your tether wraps as you move around. When I have a stick I set my it at the same level as the step (other side of platform) and I can just lift my feet up and kind of straddle the tree and go from leaning to sitting and back without adjusting my tether.

Hydrographic film, tree bark with matching squirrel step. Also sprayed platform foot surface with sand textured paint before dipping.

Nice work. Just ordered a predator to compare to my ridge runner and might go this route. Did you have to do multiple dips? From my brief experience with hydro dipping I think it would be hard to get all sides with one dip.

Also, what color was your base coat before dipping?

Just one dip, each part. I disassembled it and didn’t worry about sides you wouldn’t see from the ground while it’s up in the tree. They still got coated but the image is real distorted and looks more like a swirl paint job on the back of the post, foot surface, etc.

Paint and a Night Ize gear tie. I’m still a fan of the factory strap and buckle after trying other methods.

During an SRT ascent I attach the end of my gear tie to the left side of my saddle. At hunting height I tie and alpine butterfly in my static rope and connect that loop to a carabiner on my right lineman’s loop. This backs up my Mad Rock Safeguard and allows an easy two hand set up of my platform.

The gear tie stays attached to my platform.

The carabiner on my lineman’s loop is also dual purpose and backs up my bridge and ropeman 1 during the hunt by adding a prusik to the end of my tether.

This^^^
If you set the extra step level with the platform, you actually can't reach it with your foot when you are in your "home" position. Having steps above the platform allows better control for slow movement on or off the platform and it also give a foot rest to change-up foot position during the day.
Being restricted to strictly level positions (level with the platform) for feet doesn't give quite the same comfort as it does when the steps are higher.
One more advantage to having the steps higher is on leaning trees where you have a tendency to pendulum on your tether...a higher step reduces that out-of-control pendulum action because you use the step as a support. I've tried steps level and I've tried steps higher...no contest.
I have Treehopper steps on the straps of my 3 Predators. I wouldn't do it any other way.

Got my Predator last week, and finally got bored this week to paint it. Seems to work well on the different colored trees around here. Debating about doing paracord around the edge still, but overall, pretty happy with it.

I’m jealous, looks to good to stand on, good job!!!

Seems like most guys are just painting their platform and not stealth stripping them. Anyone who has done both prefer one over the other?

I am considering painting the bottom and stealth stripping the sides and contact points...

I wrapped some of this on the post where it contacts the platform and the leveling bolt.
