How many arrows do you take into the field?

Was thinking about this last night while sitting in a tree, how many arrows do you guys take into the field when out on a hunt? My bow quiver allows four arrows but I only take two arrows with me. My thinking is I highly doubt I would ever get multiple shots in a day so more than a couple arrows is just additional weight that can be cut out.

So how many do you guys take into the field and have you ever had the need to use them all while in a stand/ground blind/etc?

With my recurve I take 3 broadheads and one rubber blunt. The blunt is to take a couple practice shots on the way in. The three broad heads are because if I ever spine a deer on the first shot, I'm pretty sure I will be so worked up on the second shot that I'll miss. That gives me the third shot to calm down and finish the job.

My quiver holds six and that's what I take and realistically only need one but I like having extras for when Mr.Murphy shows up

I always carry six, you would be surprised how many times I've heard stories of people shooting 6 arrows during the rut when they can't get a buck to stop

I bring in five arrows with me I haven't had to empty my quiver yet, but I'm thinking of taking judo tips with me this year. Can't tell you how many times a deer hunt has almost turned into a squirrel hunt.

I was just putting broadheads on my arrows 5 minutes ago. I bought a 3 pack and the quiver holds 3, so 3 it is.

In the past I only had a three arrow quiver but just upgraded to a better built five arrow quiver this year. Figured I may as well fill it up. I emptied my three arrow quiver before so probably a good idea to carry more.

Hmm, maybe I should start taking the additional 2 with me. I guess with this only being my second year, haven't had the opportunity to empty my quiver. But you all make some very good points, thanks for sharing. Just looked up the judo arrowheads and learned about Stumping...might have to pick some up now.

2 with broadheads. I've spined a hog before, and had to cut his throat. If you're not down with that program, carry more arrows.

I mainly carry the second in case I drop one once I get up the tree.

When I was younger I once used all 4 of my arrows. Hmm, better bring the spear. :grinning:

A really good hunter told me about a buck he shot that he forgot to fill his quiver for. He took 2 arrows when the quiver held 5...
Shot one, hit liver.
Trailed the deer after a while, found it bedded down, shot second arrow and missed. Buck ran off.
Found buck again, still alive and tangled in a mess of briars, ripping himself to shreds. Without a third arrow he couldn’t do anything for the buck, so after giving more time and calling his buddy, who brought his own bow and a full quiver, they were finally able to dispatch the deer and end its struggle.
I heard this story before I bought my first hunting license. I always subscribe to 2=1, 1=0 in this and many things. My quiver holds 6, so I have 4 broadheads and 2 adders for small game.

I take 3 with Broadheads. .22 LR with a can for the pesky squirrels.

My quiver holds 3, and all of them have broadheads. I have emptied it before as well. I was hoping to pick up a 4 arrow quiver to add a small game point this year, but no luck.
