How to Cut and Seal the End of Ropes

Good video....I put whipping on my ropes and this video the first I seen talking about it. Needs to be posted at the top of the diy section right along with the sewing information

First time I've seen whipping as well, usually just see the heat shrink tubing method or electrical tape.

I am surprised that he didn't mention hot knife for the oplux.

oplux is hard to cut even with a hot knife. The stuff is nuts.

but a hot knife is a very good investment. I’ve used mine way more than I anticipated.

I’ll tell you what I had a heck of a time cutting the 5.5mm Beal Kevlar. I saw a video on the hot knife though. Should have thought to try it.

For polyester and nylon ropes, I wrap a piece of tape, cut in the middle and torch each end with the tape still on. I haven't done any non-melting ropes. I guess heat shrink would work for that.

I put a putty knife in a vise and heat it up red hot with a propane torch it works pretty good for cutting ropes and straps. I will usually put a few wraps of tape in the rope where I want to cut it first.

My hot knife is almost useless on oplux. I have better luck with tape and cutting with titanium scissors. Then using the heat shrink with the glue on the inside.

I wrap with electrical tape lightly then put hvy shrink tube and use heat gun to shrink it and then get a brand new razor heat that up then since the shrink tube is still warm I slice with heated razor blade where I need to then heat the cut edge slightly that way it will go over the cut edge slightly. Let cool completely
Ps
As I cut I lightly roll the rope during cut that way nothing sticks
