How to "drop" a deer

I'll get pics from both of those points. Wind 99% of the time is east/northeast.
That wind would make sense if he beds on the west side the most. If you could get a just off wind stay just far enough west on the north side he might walk pretty close up the west side of the property line. He would be laying with wind over back facing downwind so keep that in mind on your access. You should be able to stay out of his sight line then too. Just an idea. Hard to say for sure without actually seeing it in person.

If you hear guys say drop him with a high shoulder shot, they are talking B/C 3.5...

I know some guys like the neck shots, I’ve shot one in the neck and it worked well, my buddy shot one in the neck and caught only meat and he killed the deer a couple weeks later with a festering wound. Just more room for error in the neck IMO.

The area with all the st augustine grass, cedars, and rubs that I took u to is close by so u got a pretty good idea where he's at....shhhh.
My guest permit is open if u wanna go...

I only shoot B,C 3 or 4. I have shot many deer in this area with 30-06 and had them run up to 40yds with no or little blood until the last 10 or 15yds, which amazed me! So I moved my bullet weight up from 150gr to 180gr, and now nothing but hoofs in the air.

Yessir, sent you a couple pics of how I’d approach it, you’ve been in there a lot more than me so use best judgement. And thanks but I’ll be in Kansas come that time. But hope to get a pic of him piled up!

Gotta love internet search engines. Here's what I found, and it's pretty surprising to me:

Peak Whitetail Rut - Florida

It’s even worse than that... sadly!

It gets very specific based on your exact area. I get does dropping fawns around March 25ish. So actual breeding around the first week of September, before the season even opens. It can vary just a few miles up the road, gotta just figure out your specific area and I’m not sure what it is exactly where @Weldabeast is hunting.

However, we have so many does that we will have breeding activity for a few months, up till January on fawns that I’ve seen here in NE Florida.

B3 will anchor them, typically, with a solid hunting caliber, although you're going to lose at least one shoulder's worth of meat... Another option could be a higher velocity, smaller caliber, expanding/fragmenting bullet, in the C4 area. Hydrostatic shock will drop them, as well. One of my favorite "short range" deer guns is a sub-6lb. .22-250Rem setup.

Last year, slightly quartering to me. Put it at the base of the neck and he turned into a bag of meat and bones. A couple years ago I shot that weird spike buck straight in the neck under the white spot bc that’s all he gave me and dropped him in place as well. If I get a good broadside shot I’ll put it around B3 but never had a neck shot fail to put them down. My grandfather only shot deer in the base of the neck for 60+ years and swore by it. Right around the A/B 2 line.

Between the ear, eye and base of the antler should make for sweet dreams. Stuffy may not be happy with you but though.

I would ask.

30-30 is "the gun that has killed more deer than any other." Maybe that's true, but you could argue sharp pointy sticks are the weapon that has killed more bad guys than any other too. Doesn't mean you'll find somebody relying on one today.

Anything a 30 30 will do, a 30-06 will do way better. I hunted wirh a 30 30 for about 6 years and while I don't recall ever losing a deer with it, there was a noticeable difference when I started shooting deer wirj an 06. I get way more bang-flops with that caliber and a 165 grain Hornady than I get with anything else.

As far as placement, neck shots do usually instantly incapacitate. But my go-to is to shove a bullet through both shoulders. Hard to run on swampy ground in 2wd.
I prefer the 30-30 because it’s a better “bush gun” in my opinion being that it’s a little shorter, it’s easier to maneuver through palms and thickets….

I don't wanna derail the thread or poo on anybody's gun. I like lever guns. Hunted with one and still own one. But I shoot most of my rifle deer inside of 30 yards because that's as far as I can see them, while knowing that I can also shoot one at 300 yards. My opinion is that all things considered a bolt gun is a better hunting tool no matter where you're hunting. But we know what opinions are like. :)

It definitely gets worse

Within 1.5hrs of my house in central FL I have killed chasing bucks from Sept 17 thru Feb11

It’s crazy and verrrrrrrry localized

I did shoot one buck right in the ear hole and exited other ear hole

Solid rest on tree stand, knew the exact yardage (he stopped right at my 100yd reference baby pine tree) and had sighted gun the day before so I knew exactly where it was hitting

He dropped and didn’t bleed

I am not anti 30.06 either lol I just like to be able to move around in the bushes easier. Opinions are like a$$holes everyone has them and they all stink lmao
