How to "drop" a deer

Heading out in the morning.... Other than @Mopar1169 2 pins anywhere else u guys want to see? I was planning on setting 2cameras but I don't have enough batteries... oh well...in my experience they are more of a pain than they're worth

I don't know, about 7 years or so ago it finally clicked for me how to REALLY use trail cameras to my advantage.
I've shot a ton of bucks in my life. Now I enjoy the challenge of finding a big old bruzer buck and chasing after him.
I've learned what they look for as far as terrain and security cover and how they travel through the woods..
Those are places I look for to set cameras...

You don't have to be a so called 'trophy hunter' to get the most out of your camera scouting.
I'm not trying to derail this thread, I'm just sayin'...

I suffer from camera failure more than anything else....I just seem to have bad luck. A branch falls in front, moisture build up under the lens so all the pics are just blurry blobs, and like last time I set 1...total camera failure.

Ha ha, sounds like I'm not the only one that sh!t happens to then.

I've been using trail cameras since they took 35mm film...
I had brand new ones puke the first time on a tree. I've had brand new ones stolen before I ever got to see what walked bye...
I've had bears eat a pile of cameras... You name it, I've probably had it happen.

I've gone through soo many i couldn't begin to give an accurate guess. (I'll say 80 but who knows)

The bears get me too.....I think it shows how much more intelligent they are than the rest of the critters. Coon and bear always investigate....

Skin problems run in the family. I go to the extreme to keep my skin outta the sun because I don't like suntan lotion or anything like that so I cover up, also keeps the skeeters from biting, yellow flys are out in force right now too......I have no shame...hahahahaha I'm always totally looking like an idiot. The looks I get from the joggers and dog walkers are priceless. Headnet + this sun shade thing I found in the dumpster + tucked in shirt and pants = not cool

I usually have a cool down/dry off period back at the truck before I leave and I get a kick out of watching the people show up all ready to go for some exercise and take off down the trail only to be back 10-15 minutes later ready to go home because the bugs are just to much for them....it's rough out there this time of year

The only deer I ever hit and lost was a big buck that I hit in the void with my muzzleloader. There's a spot in their high back where you can pass a bullet through and not hit anything. Once the smoke cleared, he was on the ground spinning around with his front legs (thought I spined him). By the time I got reloaded, he was 150 yards away and turning a corner in the woods.

I trailed him for a few hundred yards and the trail went cold. That night, my neighbor mentioned he saw a big buck with a blood streak on his back lazily bounding through a field with his tail and head up. To this day, that shot haunts me but his sighting gives me hope or at least survived long enough to walk into another's sight.

It very well could've been me but I retired that rifle and haven't shot it since.

I did that last year behind my house with my crossbow. Broke his shoulder right over the spine. It was a decent 8 point for back there. Made me mad. Neighbor saw him a month later with a big old puss sack on the top of his shoulder. Not sure if he dropped alittle or I just screwed it up. He survived by a couple inches.
But the the cutthroat made a clean exit.

mopars northern most pin is position A. Here is position A looking toward the island... visibility pretty much zero. Vegetation too tallScreenshot_20210620-134808_(1).png

Southern position B looking toward the island. I didn't take the range finder but I'd say it's closer to 60-70 yardsScreenshot_20210620-134447_(1).png
Saddle sniper position from the base and from directly in front of island

Not sure what to make of the island situation... Is it normal to find another deers shed in an area claimed by a more dominant deer?

Since u guys are looking at my walking stick I give u an easy tip....see those 2 paint lines? The low line is the height of the tingly/yoder rolled down and the high line is the yoder deployed.....that way u can kinda check water depth before fully committing to a step.

I’m not sure. I spent 5 hours and 11 miles scouting yesterday. Found sign, had a few deer, bear and hogs on the 2 trail cams my buddy and I set out. Didn’t find any sheds. Found a couple bedding areas just outside of the swamp areas and some fresh rubs. It wasn’t near as promising as I hoped for. Maybe Thomas Creek will be better.
