C3 or C4… I shot 2, and the season before last during general gun. And it is amazing what 2” difference can make even with a 30-30…. One was a smaller buck and I shot it in the (C4) region and it only ran 80 yards and laid down, the other was a large doe I shot her C3 blew through both shoulders she dropped instantly. No blood trailing. It was great. The down side was picking out the bad parts and losing shoulder meat.I don't want to take away from nutters great post on taxes so I start a new 1.....
I have only ever shot 1 deer with a rifle and I didn't recover because it made it to the property line 250yds. I've watched the utubes and u see neck shots and high shoulder drop dead in thier tracks. I know a buck that I could possibly kill but he's right on the boundary and if I was presented a shot I don't.want him going anywhere. It's not a far shot 100yds. I'm pretty good marksman and am confident I could make the shot accuracy wise but where should I be aiming? There is a good chance the deer could be laying down also

...You're essentially aiming for a garden hose sized target...
I would ask.Roughly fist size target?
My good bud has a 30/06 he may let me borrow if I asked
The deer I shot that ran 250yds was sub 30yds off the ground and I shot c4
Now if that was up here in the Northeast, they'd be in the middle of the rut which would throw a wrench in the plan ... 'cause that target buck might be anywhere chasing hot does. But since you're in FL, the timing should be well ahead of the rut. When is the peak rut in FL? Mid-January?So...I lucked out and got a general gun quota for this wma....maybe we can have some fun. Next time I get a chance I'm going to go to the island and make sure.it looks like he's still hanging out there and maybe set a couple cameras....I'll take some pics and and u guys can follow along and maybe we can maybe learn some stuff together and y'all can see the trials and tribulations. Quota is for Nov 19-21.
B3 is most definitely the highest percentage one shot stop IMO. Shot well over 50 there with a 30.06 180gr round nose core-loks and most didn’t even untrack. And the few that did didn’t go over 30 yds.B 3.5 high shoulder will catch both lungs and the hydro shock will zap the spine...famous writes such as Ron Spomer and Craig Boddington often promotes it...and so do I at least once a year the needed Dead Right There effect downside is meat lose
also it allows the most wiggle room
Gotta love internet search engines. Here's what I found, and it's pretty surprising to me:I don't know...never really paid much attention to that since I can't ever choose when I get to hunt. I just go the dates on the quota so that aspect of the deer puzzle I've ignored.
If it were me I would set up in one of the two spots marked in blue depending on wind direction, since you are using a gun you can stay back alittle bit and cover multiple exits. Try and put a bullet in him when he stands up. I imagine he is either going to the north east or west south west on his exit by the looks if it. Not sure how thick that island is and how far you can see in it that time if year in your area.I have an example of a property line/boundary.....and if anybody can help me figure out how to kill this buck I'd appreciate it
Left side of the pic is public. Right side private. Red line is the.property line, green circle is an island surrounded by waist deep water that is so thick with cattails and lilly pad and other green stuff u can't walk or use a canoe/yak without making tons of noise. The island is roughly 10yds wide and 20yds long and the escape route is onto the private. The fence runs right thru the island on the very eastern side. He beds on the west side (public side) and he's there a lot based on the amount of hair and poo and every tree on the island is rubbed. I've peppered the area with cameras for 3 years and he rarely goes into the public side. Deer feeders and food plots on the private from what I've heard (can't 100% verify) It's roughly 100 yards from the public southwestern bank of the pond to the island but the island is so thick with brush I don't think I could get a shot thru and I'm also scared because if I hit him I would have to drop him instantly.and I'm not exactly sure if I am confident enough in myself that I can do that
Two bounds and he's on private....he's a nice 1 and a big jerk
