How to start building a budget target sight for 3D? How are they different from hunting sight?

Going to start diving into 3D and target archery. Right now I'm using 4 pin hunting sight which work fine. But once I'm ready for an upgrade, what do I need to consider for a sight setup? Slider is a given, but is a magnifier/scope/clarifier needed? Not looking to spend top dollars. I understand the concept of 'buy once, cry once'. But no, I don't have the tears at the moment to cry haha. All funds has been diverted to hunting season. Just planning for after season.

Thank you for assistance!

The items you listed are more of preference. For 3D I use a smaller peep and pin fiber. Some of the guys I shoot with use magnifiers but they also seem to use them only for specific shooting. Some guys had troubles outdoors. I do run a scope shade to help star burst of my pin. A peep small enough that your eye can still see through clearly but co witness/align with your scope is worth a lot for target shooting in my opinion.

I'm sorry, what is co witness/align ?

You use the housing to fill the peep. It verifies your anchor/ alignment. I run a certain size housing because it fills my peep just barely complete. So if you see light to a side you know your anchor is off

I have been buying and using Truball sight/scope combos in 3D for years. I have never bought any of mine or my sons set-ups new. You can find really good used set-ups on AT or FB buy/sell/trade groups for half the price of new. Any of the Achieve line up are good sights. Sure-Loc, Shrewd, CBE and many other brands are good set-ups also.
I use a 31mm scope and have used 2X-5X magnification. Going up in magnification may require you to use a clarifier or verifier to "clear up" your sight picture. Peep size to match your scope diameter is important as @RamBam has said.
I use a clear .010 fiber with a ZBros light that is changeable to red/green/blue and I run it on blue.

Remember the 3D game can be as big a bottomless money pit as saddle hunting so beware!!
