How would you handle this sort of sale?

Question for everyone. If you bought a saddle off someone and hated it the minute you sat in it, would you ask the individual who sold it to you for a refund and ship it back or is it now your responsibility to resell it? What if the saddle was advertised as very comfortable, but the minute you put it on it was not comfortable at all? Do I now have to try and sell something that was very uncomfortable to me and describe it as such to others or is that a fault of the original seller ? Just looking for opinions, thanks.

I’d probably start there, just contact the seller & ask him how they’d feel about returning & you pay all shipping

Body shapes are different. New vs old to the saddle game gives you different opinions of what is comfortable as well..where you hunt, how you hunt, ros or platform...all matter. You bought it your responsibility to resell it.

I just feel bad trying to sell something and having to tell someone " comfort is subjective, but it was terrible to me" I could lie , or I could just not make a sale. Puts me in a tough situation imo.

"Very comfortable" is a subjective description being that we all have different bone structures, hip width, leg length, etc. I've bought and sold many saddles after sitting in them for 5-minutes and realizing they sucked in the comfort department. Whats comfortable for someone else doesn't always mean its comfortable for you. Just resell it.

Not really. Nothing is 1 solution for all. Shoes are a perfect paralell. Narrow, wide, super wide, high arch, flat footed, pronate, supenate.... You can honestly say, "great saddle, just didn't work out for me".

You won't be alone. This is how many of us find the "right fit" for us. Unfortunately there isn't a saddle showroom to go try on these things and we have to buy to try. Trust me I've bought more than my share. The next guy who buys it knows he's buying an unknown. If it doesn't work for him it moves on. If it does then great for him. We're all different, @Vtbow's shoe analogy is the best I've heard to describe this. As long as there's nothing damaged or degraded about the saddle sell away with a clear conscious.

Maybe post to swap it for a different saddle, lots of guys willing to make horse trades.

What saddle is it? There’s a buyer out there looking unless it’s a homemade job. Then your potential customer base just shrunk a whole lot.

All great advice. This is why we always recommend new folks hit up the saddle hunter map and find someone close and sit in theirs. Or ask very specific questions like what size is your waist and hips? How does it fit in layers? My hunting partner is the same size hips, waist and weight as me but 5" shorter. He can't stand my flex. Different strokes for different folks.

This is not debatable, unless the saddle has a defect, it is yours. Fortunately, there is a decent market for used saddles right here in the classifieds.

Well it's a resounding answer that it's mine and thus my responsibility to sell. I do wonder how on Earth this guy found it so comfortable when I can't imagine sitting in it at all. I've owned five different saddles btw. I will resell and make sure to let the next guy know comfort is subjective and that it's lacking any defects from the manufacturer and not comment further. Thanks guys.

Wouldn’t worry too much. Just by looking at saddle oriented sites it looks like everyone likes something a little different. You don’t have to even mention comfort. Just list the saddle and the objective data and say something like “just not for me” or nothing at all.

An off brand will be the most difficult. If it’s a recon pm me.

I started saddle hunting in December 2018 when I got my first mantis. I liked it, but it wasn't as comfortable as everyone was saying. I had one person give me a little grief as i got it in December and sold it as soon as my season ended mid-January. People on here came to my defense as comfort is totally subjective. I sold it for almost what I paid for it...used it for two sits and lost like 25.00 on it...not a big deal. Bought the Kestrel and it was more comfortable than the mantis, but not quite what I was looking for. Used it literally 10 sits in my basement, and Aero came out with the flex like 2 weeks after I got the kestrel. Sold it for what I paid for it and got the flex. Will not sell this one.

What 5 saddles have you owned? The issue may be your expectations of comfort and not the equipment.
