It’s been so long I forgot how bad it tastes! It’s karma I guess. Skill, good fortune, the best hunting grounds or whatever else has caused to be arrogant. I will admit I have on occasion looked down my nose at people thinking, how? or just idiot! Now to the dish where my pie got served. I was sitting on the east property line ditch between a huge crop field and a CRP thicket. The ditch has mature oaks along its banks that are dropping acorns and deer traffic in general has been heavy. There are two shooter bucks using the area. A large trophy 8pt and an old declining 8pt cull. Most of the pics have been between midnight and daylight. There was a strong storm line with 20+ mph wind most of the night and the wind was still out the west this morning. I slipped in early hoping that the weather had pushed their routine back a hour or two. I was right! Here comes the cull 8pt a heavy body buck from the south. Completely unaware of my location he stopped in the wide open broadside and less than 10yds to my west, right strong side, a gift, so easy I was already thinking about bragging. Well, with the description you bow hunters can almost see the arrow passing right under his chest immediately behind his front legs. In the mud went the slick trick and in my mouth goes the humble pie. Karma, arrogance, pride, I don’t know but it tastes like ! Hope everyone else is successful this morning. Good luck and be safe.

Pics below or stand site, trophy buck(month is wrong on pic),cull buck and clean arrow fletchings.

What’s the reason? Wrong pin?
I have been shooting the bow since the miss to try and find a mechanical excuse. I shoot dead zero stacking arrow at all my pins. This morning I using 20 yd pin and was center the lungs not low on the heart. The reality is I got arrogant at the chip shot and dropped my arm.

Happens to the most experienced of us. A younger hunter on our group missed a couple chip shots early and we were good naturedly poking at him. As you say karma has a way of biting back. I ended up missing a chip shot of my own, 15 yds, this year. No excuses, just flat out missed under him. I think I did the same thing, just dropped my arm. Only saving grace for me is I was able to get a second chance at him with the rifle later in the year. He wasn't so lucky that time.

Hate to admit it but I did the same thing years ago. Biggest buck I"d ever seen at the time walks right under my t***s**** and stops to look away. Instead of concentrating on shot placement, anchor point, good sight alignment etc I've got thoughts of how I'm having him mounted "maybe left low peek...hhmmm, no maybe go with head up slight right look and I"ll put him on the other side of the window..." Almost threw up right there when the arrow hit the dirt and I had to watch him casually walk away. Pretty sure I heard him laughing at me...

Yep, there he is. The buck I missed this morning. He was actually a 10pt cull. I’m never going to hear the end of the miss. A lady just shot him with a rifle, from a box stand, over a feeder. “ Why do you use that bow? It don’t kill. Why do you hunt from those uncomfortable saddles or lock ones? Why do you walk all that way? Why do you worry about wind direction? Just park your Ranger under the box stand and sit in comfort by the heater while you watch a feeder. Haha, it’s going to be a long season now!

Bummer . . .
If I would have known this was going to happen I would have let him walk. I’ve killed plenty of bucks and it’s a big deal for her. After all she only hunts from box stands, haha. Anyway the bummer is the friendly harassment that’s coming for the way I missed and she killed it using every means I advise against. Lol, I will just have choke up and take the verbal pitches.

Had some of that pie myself this year. It's frustrating, but if you look at it the way I do you did the hard part (finding them and getting them in a killable spot). We just blew the easy part. I will correct the easy part.
