Hunting from the ground

Oof, $250 for a chair. I would hope it is great.

Sunday night I sat in an Alps 3 legged chair for nearly 4 hours, no comfort problems, no noise: https://www.amazon.com/ALPS-OutdoorZ-Rhino-Hunting-Realtree/dp/B00359023S/
... but it doesn't swivel or adjust well to uneven ground, which I ended up wanting.

This looks interesting: 2.6lbs, 465lb capacity, swivels: https://www.amazon.com/TALON-360-Degree-Technology-Lightweight-Backpacking/dp/B07FDMSDWR/
... Except it's got high-viz reflectors built into the material. I might have to experiment with spraypaint or something on that. No info on whether it's noisy, either. Might have to bite the bullet to find out, but hesitant because the legs don't adjust.

I am on a quest for a better seat with a price around $70 max. I want light weight, simple, quiet, bonus points for swivels. I may yet just give up and get a 5 gallon bucket with a $9.99 swivel top.

Was thier any difficulty shooting the bow have compound.

Sounds like redhawk has a lot more experience bow hunting from one than I do. I've mostly used it for gun hunting on a lease I used be on. Have practiced a few times with a bow from it and it seemed fine but have never taken a deer with a bow from one.

These days I mostly pull it out for bad weather. Nice to be able to pack up quick and head in when things go south

Do you have one? Does the bar across the back dig in? I might look into one for next season.

I do have one. I’ve sat in it for quite a few long hunts. I wasn’t annoyed by the bar in the back. But if it’s a concern, I’m sure you can fold a shirt over it or something. It never crossed my mind.

if I use this thing going forward and become conscious of the bar in my back because you made me think about it, you owe me a beer dang it!

I have the hammock seat and used it periodically over the last 3 years. Very comfortable and easy to set up. When it's cold, i put an insulated foam pad (cheap from any big box store) in it to keep the booty warm. My son is borrowing it this season to do some timber duck hunting with it. The only down side to it, is the fabric is a bit noisy when it is cold.

I use a millennium tree seat with a third hand archery bow holder on it. I also change the strap out and put a lonewolf strap on it with DiY versa buttons. Works great!

David Toms did a video on modifying the Hammock seat. I copied what he did and really like the modifications for making it quiet and ease of seat up.
I used a large camo mesh decoy bag.

Mind posting some pics of how it's constructed so diy people can see?

Key is the rear bar - it can fold up to lean against a tree and not interfere with roots. Or it can be deployed and there’s a strap you adjust that adjusts the angle. Also the seat material is adjustable to determine tension. Has shoulder straps and hip belt. Tennis balls make sense the first time you sit in mud.

it’s worth watching his videos and getting the point of it all. And in my opinion, 200.00 to a fellow who perfected the idea and makes them in his garage and is nice as can be is a better investment than DIY. But everyone has different priorities, so I get it.

I've sat in a waldrop seat and liked it. Used ole @kyler1945's around the campfire and hunted an afternoon out of my uncles. Neat product.

Personally, if I'm ground hunting I'm carrying a gun or a crossbow. I want to be as small and low as possible. A turkey vest with a padded back and flip-down butt cushion is hard to beat. Just find you a good tree (best are the ones that've fallen down) and you're off to the races. I've spent many hours on one squirrel, turkey, and deer hunting. If I need to sit a little higher due to brush/grass, I've used my saddle a bunch of times. The jx3 works great too, as does a turkey lounge. If I had to spend all day in one option, I'd go with the lounge. If I'm walking a lot, I'd pick the vest.

I have the Hammock seat modified like Dave Toms and the Waldrop Pac Seat. They are both beyond comfortable. They both have their place in the woods for different scenarios. Regardless of which one you use.. have a good backdrop behind you and wait till the deer is quartering away. I killed my first trad buck at 12 yards wearing a ghillie suti while sitting in my hammock seat.

I've seen several variations of hunting tree-hammock camp chairs. Sorry no experience.

I ran this seat turkey hunting this year. Heavier than the Waldrop, but it sure beat sitting on a pad, was low, and carried well. Doesn't sink in much on soft ground either.

I also have one of these as Timberwolf mentioned and it IS super comfortable:

One other note.. The hammock seat allows you to pivot, giving you a wider area to shoot. The only downfall to the Hammock seat is needing a tree. Other than that it's my #1 seat. I love the Waldrop Pac Seat for late season muzzle loader. I have a backpack attached to the back of it.

Waldrops are NICE, but if you're moving around a lot I love my Nif-T-Seat. They pivot nice as well so its easy to rotat. They're light and pack well too...too bad they stopped making them!

The closest thing I've found to the Nif T Seat is a Golf seat. They sell them on Ebay. They are chrome and would need to be wrapped in some vet tape to hide the finish.
