Hunting Hoody

It is a good reason. I have used a Fanatic jacket with the pass through pocket for many years. I don't like gloves and the hand warmer pocket lets me get away with cut offs most of the year. No extra hand muff to pack.

Personally, I don't really need a hunting hoodie. I think functionally I prefer a coat, and I have a hoodie (that I posted) that's as warm as my Fanatic jacket. Yet here I am looking at Swazi. Why?

The #1 reason for buying sh** you don't need...it looks cool.

One of us is going to have to get the Nahanni and report back. Will it be you?

You can get that in a coat.

Honestly, the question was mostly in jest, but I did start to think on it some.

I came up with three advantages to Hoodies
1. Slightly less heat loss due to (not having) full length uninsulated seam (zipper).
2. Design facilitaes pass through pocket
3. Have a hood
* Often made in longer lengths (anorak style) which could be beneficial for those who don't wear bibs

Drawbacks of a Hoodie
1. Slightly less ventilation when needed
2. Harder to put on in some situations
3. Longer lenghts don't contour as well when seated (bunch up)
4. Have a hood
I absolutely despise zippers. I don’t know why but they’re anathema to my very existence. 90% of my hunting is done in 40-60 degree weather so something like the Kings Anorak would fit my needs perfect. I can adjust baselayer beneath it and throw a vest on if needed. Yes a jacket can do the same but again, zippers. If I could find a pullover like product sand hoodie I’d go for it.

I would die in that Anorak in 40-60 degree temps. It felt about as warm as the Fanatic jacket, just didn’t like the fit as much of the Anorak.

Same. I really like the anorak design but I just couldn’t get the fit I wanted. I could get it on fine but the fit on me was just off. Full disclosure I have long arms and torso. Kings customer service told me the fall version will have a better designed fit so I’m hoping it’ll fit me a bit better.

I wear a hoodie, and layer vests parkas jackets etc. over it as appropriate. I like being able to flip a hood up to keep the weather off, or leave it down. I hate loosing hats in the woods, especially out of a tree. I usually pare down to a hoodie while I'm moving, and layer up when stationary.

If I ever get the free time to start a new project - after I've completed my backlog of projects - I've got some ideas for a bowhunting hoodie. Bigger / more pockets, beavertail that won't ride up, something to compact bow arm material, pit zips, side zips for bridge or holster access, ventilation, etc.

I have been watching this thread to see if there is a perfect anorak type hoodie.
Already have a Asbell pathfinder which I have grown to use frequently ( oak ridge plaid ) and a couple other heavy windbreaker fleece zips that are adequate.
Also I came across the below on Cabelas when I was trying to slim down choices of what to blow gift cards on. Sorry
Seams like A soft shell material though
Decent price on the direct website

I used my Predator fleece lined hoodie all year this year. Really liked it for layering without bulk for bowhunting.

But I would love one with a half zipper, pockets and underarm zippers.

Just got the XLG Anorak in and figured I'd follow up to add on to what others have said. It feels very warm and sturdy. Somewhat bulky in the hands but perfect on the body. Definitely order up. I'm 5'11" 175ish and usually between M/L. It fits well with a base layer and a mid layer. Probably not fitting much more, but the goal is to not need much more. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a bit harder to get on/off than I imagined because there's no stretch in the fabric and again it's not real roomy. I got it for less than $140 and at that price I'm quite pleased.

Hey guys!
So, ive been following this and picked up a few patterns to take a stab. One is the Fairbanks Anorak (https://www.thegreenpepper.com/product/124-mens-fairbanks-pullover-pattern/). A few small mods to this and it will be right on, I think, but a one use item, and expensive.

So...hear me out here...what about a saddle hunters poncho? A poncho is multi use, much cheaper, and easily packed? You can also rig it shield hanging gear from the rain, while wearing. It will provide the rain and wind protection, but you would have to pack or wear a mid layer.

I would take something like the below linked pattern, use a fairly light weight wind/water resistant material, reinforce the chest pocket, add a fleece lined pass through pocket as well as diagonal slots with snaps so that it could be passed through and around a bridge.

Love the idea bro! What are you going to make it out of that will be wind/water resistant AND silent though? Some kind of fleece or cowboy suede?

I’d buy that. If’n you could add fasteners along the sides so that a liner could be added I’d definitely buy it.

I've used ponchos and woobies in tree stands and ground blinds. I can see it working well. An insulated poncho like a HPG Mounain Serape paired with bibs would probably work about as well as a Heater Body Suit, and be flexible enough to adapt to a variety of bridge and saddle configurations. Man, do this, and post the results so we can rip off your idea.

Not sure if it was in here but natural gear make a windproof hoodie, 300g. Looks like they’re out of stock now but keep checking. Nat gear is good stuff and their customer service people are awesome; they are actual sportsmen and women just like us and use the gear they sell and can answer just about any question you might have.

ok bringing this back up. I just cam across this hoodie from Badlands. It looks nice and specs/reviews are good too.

Badlands does run some very good sales throughout the year that could get the price on this down even more.

Were it not for shipping and duty, I might be cajoled.

Just for browsing, I've been getting emails for all the Swazi discounts and sales.

Too bad I'm an XL or I could have the ultimate in Bill Belichick outerwear...

Size M might fit you though, lol.
