I'm a big knife nerd - curious what all of you guys are carrying for your hunting knife or EDC.

I've got a Benchmade Hidden Canyon for my hunting knife and love it. Love the S30V steel, easy to sharpen, easy to clean, and easy to handle. I would like to try out the Benchmade Altitude. I've handled it a bit but never cut anything up.

You need an Outdoor Edge Onyx EDC in your life! Cut up cardboard boxes and turn right around and skin a deer.

I've seen and heard a lot of guys talk about havalon being good, going to probably get one before season opens. Been using $25 Buck knife prior though...

No discussion of knives would be complete without mentioning the Havalon Piranta. Nice to be able to switch blades to a surgical sharp one at any time. Also love the Outdoor Edge Swingblade and never hunt without it.
EDC is the Benchmade Griptilian.

EDC is a Benchmade Grizzly Ridge which is sweet. I have used a Havalon Piranta for several years and love it, but this year I am going to be using the new K1 Ultralight from Iron Will. Made from the same A2 tool steel as their broad heads and weighs an ounce. Can't wait to try it!

I use the Havalon Piranta for skinning/caping and even quartering for about 4-5 years now. I used to always carry a Griptilian with me also for edc and any heavier work. I got a bugout not to long ago and immediately didn't like it because of how light it was but it somehow ended up in my pocket for a full week and I love it now. I use it for everything. You are absolutely correct about the S30V steel, in 3 mins I can have a knife that shaves after abusing it for a few weeks.

EDC is an Esee Izulla ss with no grips in a kydex sheath I made. It disappears in your pocket compared to any folder. I’ve processed many deer with it as well. My dad got me a benchmade steep country for a gift and I will bring that instead of the izulla this season. And mandatory in my kill kit is my victorinox 6” boning knife.

Completely agree with all the Havalon's, they're are super sharp and convienient since you can just swap out the blades.

Benchmade mini barrage , love the Axis assist opening. Also have a custom mini for when I dress up.

I tend to lean towards not having a folder for my hunting knife just for easy of cleaning. The K1 Ultralight looks sweet, that should take a nice patina as well! Are planning on forcing a patina to prevent rust on it?

I hadn't really thought about it, but I probably should. What is your preferred method for that?

You guys have some cool knives. I'm jealous. This is what I use.

Custom "sharp finger" copy by a gentleman outbof Maine. Tiger maple scales. This thing is scary sharp. Did a whole bear this year and it held an edge as if I hadn't done anything. This is my favorite hunting blade size and profile.

You could use a few different methods, some people use musturd to get a non-uniform look on the blade, butI don't tend to care for that kind of look. I've used apple cider vinager in the past and had good results with it. If you wipe it down after each use and keep it regularly oiled I wouldn't worry about rust on it.
