I have a bone to pick with some of you...

Thank you. I have not try a small platform like a OOAL Scout, Do you think something that small would satisfy your need to 'straighten up and stretch' once a while? I understand a lot of people run a combo of 1stick/Scout and ROS.
I’m not a huge platform guy. Most of the time I prefer a 3 or 4 hour evening hunt. Maybe some other guys on here could recommend a good small platform you can stand straight up on for occasional adjustments?

I have a Klemz from a the seat of a Sand Cast Lone Wolf that works fine. I am thinking of adding ROS to it because it not the best at side pressure. I'm changing my out look for the up coming season by trying 3-4 hrs morning hunt so its not so impactful with the family compared to my all day sit. So trying to go even more mobile with ROS instead of the large platform I was planning.

I want to try ring of steps, I'm mostly a sitter so I feel like I'm going to be hugging the tree a lot. But I dislike wearing knee pads (use a seat cushion with my platform setup), but then they would not help due to the tree being between my legs anyway. For the sitters, how do you cushion yourself from the tree?

I’m a ring of steps and sitter also. I didn’t like knee pads also I tried the Trophyline, Tethrd and several pair from Lowe’s. I am now using the Hatch XTAK and they are awesome. Way different from all the others.

I just got an email from trophyline that their knee pads are back in stock so I ordered some and started the return on some Amazon ones that were around the same price..

The angled scout has ample amount of room to stand up on for occasional adjustments. I am not sure how it would pair with a ROS though.

1 year later from making this thread and finally pulled the trigger on used squirrel steps. I hunted off the ooal scout all season and never gave a ROS a decent try. I played around with bullman and Treehopper steps several times in the yard and just wasn’t pleased with them for one reason or another. I stood on these squirrel steps a bit and they did feel considerably more stable, less slippery, etc. I think these are 3/4” but they didn’t feel bad on the feet at all. The good Lord willing I’ll hunt out of them one time before the season ends. I missed all of January with work. What an awesome smalls package these guys are. If I could commit to 2TC I think I’d be hard pressed to cut any more bulk. 6CC42F91-62D2-4A1C-B630-CE0F3E3EB4DF.jpeg

Nice addition. Those OCB straps work great. I used one this season and it gets the steps tight. I learned the trick to getting them really tight to the tree from Nutterbuster's youtube channel. The trick is to cam them to take out the slack, let off them a bit and pull out more slack then cam them over again. When you hear that snap sound when it cams over you know you have it.

I just ordered some squirrel steps from EWO (buying used from classifieds and having them shipped to Canada can be an issue), along with an OCB and strap. Only ordered 3 x 1", since I'll be in a JX3 (come to the light, oh ye that have not had the revelation. :tearsofjoy:) where I'll be sitting most of the time, and only will use the steps (and top of a stick) to move around the tree for a shot.

Whereabouts are you hunting Tarafrost? (generally, I'm not looking to move in on your spots!!). Love seeing more Ontarians on the forum here...

I tried another guys bullmans a few weeks ago and was hooked on the feel. This was 1st season in saddle, used OOAL scout on a stick, the. Predator XL, kept finding myself using 10% of that monster with the heels on the platform, pidgeoned toed around the tree. Also feel too exposed on the predator and got busted visually twice. (I also was not as high as I should have been)

The bullman give, and feel softer underfoot to me. So far I did a quick hour sit, want to get one last one in this winter, but will use these all next season. saving the predator XL if I do 4+ hour sits.

I’ve owned a set of squirrel steps and OCB for over a year and this past season I finally gave them a try on my next to last hunt of the year. Wow, what I have been missing. I paired them with my flat scout on top of my UOS and it was very comfortable. The following hunt I used them with my JX3 and a beast stick and that was great too. I own 3 platforms right now, but I’ll be using this ROS as my go to I think. Leaning in a saddle with ROS is like riding a cruiser with highway pegs, super comfortable. I was definitely missing out.

I put the monkey bars in action (4 hawk brand steps) and wasn’t completely sold, but gave them a few sits…..they sure fit nice in a pouch! I really like a platform but the benefits of a ROS is undeniable. I added one to my platform strap. After 2 sits, I’m gonna add another. They sit perfectly above the platform. When I get on them around the tree, my tether is shortening so the height difference is beneficial. I love them and the OCB strap can’t be beat…..attach it and cam over two times, just like NMSBowhunter said above.
