I lost my best hunting buddy.

We lost our Cooper 2 seasons ago. My favorite Cooper story was him swinging a quarter mile down the Connecticut River after my sons first duck. He knocked it down in the air however it still had its legs. Cooper followed it down river when it was above and below the water until he finally retrieved it and brought it back to my 9 yr old son. After 2 seasons we have a deposit in on a new pup coming the spring.

If you are up to it, do you have a story of her to share?
I could crash the server with stories about her. When she was a pup she fell through some thin ice. It freaked me out and I started breaking ice to get to her. About halfway to her she jumped out of the ice hole and ran across the ice towards me. Before she got to me she stopped, ran back to the hole, jumped in and grabbed the duck, and finished the retrieve! I've seen her dive, more than once, to grab a duck underwater that had dove on her. She had unbelievable drive.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a dog is always tough.

That is awesome. Some have the drive and some do not. We also have a 6yr old that is a great upland dog however she will not retrieve anything with feathers from the water, so much so that my son (no 14) had to swim out in the river to retrieve a banded goose that he did not anchor in the field this September.

Ahhh man so sorry for your loss. Im a huge dog guy and I remember losing dogs over the years. The last one i lost. I remember sobbing off and on in my squad car for weeks.

Her first and last duck hunt.

She was a beautiful lab! You can see the intensity in her eyes. I have three currently and we lost one (my best upland dog ever) a couple of years ago. He had that same look in his eyes. My current 6 year old is probably a better hunter in that he works a little closer but the old guy was the only dog I've ever had that would give me "the look" whenever I missed a bird. It was like he was saying "REALLY . . . we've been out here walking around, I let you know it was here and then I put that bird up right in front of you and YOU MISSED! COME ON!":tearsofjoy:

My favorite picture of her

That is a great picture! Anyone who has spent time with a working dog knows the look when you are both thinking the same thing and you don't need words to communicate it, that is when you and the dog are true partners. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for taking the veterans out hunting with her I’m sure she connected with them in away no one else could.

I’m sorry for your loss

Here's a couple of our veterans. She always paid special attention to those guys and gals.

I love the way the good ones watch the sky for birds like she is doing in both those pictures. I can't tell you the number of times that I looked at the dog and could tell that there were birds coming in from a direction that I was not looking because of the way the dogs eyes were tracking the birds on their way in.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I lost my best friend earlier this year. She was 12 and it crushed me to see her go. However, I still find a ton of joy in her remembrance.

So sorry for your loss, friend. Labs are truly amazing dogs. I miss mine—RIP “Bo” 2013.

That's one for the wallpaper on the phone!
I have a picture of my last dog on my phone which has been there for about 5 years. Sometimes I see it and my eyes start to tear up. I should put the new puppy's picture there instead. He is just learning to be part of the family and is quite a handful at times. His name is "Hey, stop chewing that".

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel, lost my best friend and tracking buddy earlier this summer, after 14 years. Sounds like she was an amazing dog, and you'll always have those memories to look back on.

I know how you feel man, it's a deep hurt. My Snoopy passed this Spring after 17.5 years, he was a Lab/Golden mix. I still get teared up. I love the two pictures of your dog, (the young and the old). I have a picture of Snoopy when he was a pup and we have a picture the weekend he passed and the look in his eyes is the same, nothing but love and wonderment. Truly a friend that can never be replaced. I'm sorry for your loss.
