I could crash the server with stories about her. When she was a pup she fell through some thin ice. It freaked me out and I started breaking ice to get to her. About halfway to her she jumped out of the ice hole and ran across the ice towards me. Before she got to me she stopped, ran back to the hole, jumped in and grabbed the duck, and finished the retrieve! I've seen her dive, more than once, to grab a duck underwater that had dove on her. She had unbelievable drive. We lost our Cooper 2 seasons ago. My favorite Cooper story was him swinging a quarter mile down the Connecticut River after my sons first duck. He knocked it down in the air however it still had its legs. Cooper followed it down river when it was above and below the water until he finally retrieved it and brought it back to my 9 yr old son. After 2 seasons we have a deposit in on a new pup coming the spring.

That is awesome. Some have the drive and some do not. We also have a 6yr old that is a great upland dog however she will not retrieve anything with feathers from the water, so much so that my son (no 14) had to swim out in the river to retrieve a banded goose that he did not anchor in the field this September.I could crash the server with stories about her. Great pictures, same intensity in the look, just a little more experienced in the second! Her first and last duck hunt.

She was a beautiful lab! You can see the intensity in her eyes. I have three currently and we lost one (my best upland dog ever) a couple of years ago. He had that same look in his eyes. My current 6 year old is probably a better hunter in that he works a little closer but the old guy was the only dog I've ever had that would give me "the look" whenever I missed a bird. It was like he was saying "REALLY . . . we've been out here walking around, I let you know it was here and then I put that bird up right in front of you and YOU MISSED! COME ON!"Her first and last duck hunt.

That is a great picture! Anyone who has spent time with a working dog knows the look when you are both thinking the same thing and you don't need words to communicate it, that is when you and the dog are true partners. Thanks for sharing. My favorite picture of her

I’m sorry for your loss

I love the way the good ones watch the sky for birds like she is doing in both those pictures. I can't tell you the number of times that I looked at the dog and could tell that there were birds coming in from a direction that I was not looking because of the way the dogs eyes were tracking the birds on their way in.Here's a couple of our veterans. I have a picture of my last dog on my phone which has been there for about 5 years. Sometimes I see it and my eyes start to tear up. I should put the new puppy's picture there instead. He is just learning to be part of the family and is quite a handful at times. His name is "Hey, stop chewing that".That's one for the wallpaper on the phone!
