I have seen many videos on one stick climbing and thought after watching them, that method is just not for me. But today I attended a tethrd teach-n-train session and after their demonstration of one sticking I might just change my mind. The guy doing it took his time and explained the finer details that you just cant see when watching a video. I came away from it with a completely different perspective. Just a slight plug for the teach- train, if you are new to saddle hunting, as I am, you can pick up some great information at these events. I went and thourouly enjoyed myself. It's very low pressure and their didn't seem to be a dumb newb question they wouldn't answer.

With practice one sticking is great. Without practice, you will hate it. Good for tethrd

So please share some of these “finer details” that you can’t get from YT videos!

Well obviously I've not seen every video ever produced on the subject but here a few I wasn't aware of before. The use of the Madrock Safeguard device for repelling. This was probably the most important thing I didn't know about. Next was using a gear tie to keep your repelling line from slipping down the tree as you climb. He also was able to lift the stick with his foot each time he was ready to go higher, although I have since saw another video where they used a giant gear tie to accomplish this. He also showed how to release your repel line easily after descending the tree. These are just a few of things I didn't know before that I think would make this task easier and safer.

I agree, seeing it done in person is like night and day to watching a video. The guy I saw one sticking only used a one step aider. He made more moves but it looked effortless.

Sounds like the live version of this video.

Personally I love one sticking. That video of Carl one sticking is one of the best ones I have watched on the technique.

The biggest issue with one sticking is trying to keep tether slack to a minimum.
