I Try The Maceration Method Euro Mount

I’m just coming back around to finish off this thread. I can’t remember the exact days now but I was basically done with the 2nd skull just a few short days after the last photo so just over two weeks, 3 tops. I decided to leave the bone natural on both. I prefer the look over white. I can confidently say that the maceration method is very straight forward and simple, and requires little effort. Gluing the nose pieces back on is very easy since the fit in like a puzzle piece. I’m not convinced you need to change the water a lot, maybe 1 a week. That’s said, I do think getting the fresh skull directly into the water makes a difference in the total time it takes. The aquarium heater is a must for this method.

looks great....i also prefer the natural bone look.....i'd do this method but i'd want it outside....and my crazy cat lady neighbor has established a feral cat colony and so i know those felines would mess with my setup....since i don't have any place to put this to keep them away

then you'd see a thread of mine where i'm macerating feline skulls.....

@raisins I have a similar issue with cats/strays/rodents/whatever. Hardware cloth/chicken wire is your friend to keep those pests at bay

good call!

here's a funny...crazy cat lady went around door-to-door and asked all the neighbors to give a donation to help feed the neighborhood cats (i guess it is getting expensive for her)

I forgot to add the post processing. All I did was soak them for a day or two in Dawn dish soap water and then gave them a light rinse and brush. Then I let them out for an afternoon to dry. After that I glued the nose pieces back on.

Sounds like you could keep a beetle colony well fed.....

Had the machine running for something else today and thought I’d print an euro wall hanger. I don’t know if itll be any good. I pulled it from thingyverse real quick. BC87882F-EA23-42DE-89BF-040552D96BDC.jpeg

It looks a little small. I may have to scale it up a little bit but we’ll see.

you get it figured out and I’d be interested in one
I think this one is to hang it parallel with the wall since the bracket is so short. I’m thinking I want them to be held at like a 30-45 deg angle so I might have to whip up another model to try.

I was thinking almost 90 degrees if I made one with kydex, but am down for whatever angle…

I’m a little surprised at how well this little bracket does. The geometry is slightly different on each skull and you can see between these two skulls one sticks out more than the other. I was just going for cheap and easy and this definitely does the trick. I like the look. You could always paint this what ever color you like and use different screws. This is what I have on hand and itll do fine for my office or shop. 4A7E6A85-953E-416A-BB45-6AFBCB02EA57.jpegF913F91F-18E4-482D-BCA5-9C4EE2672984.jpeg6DDE38F5-CF94-481B-ADA3-5501C301AB66.jpegFDCD60D7-E5AC-4208-8241-FE53F65D2A9D.jpeg9904230B-2EE2-4926-B791-DB56384400DD.jpeg2213A7CD-9EB6-4F07-A4F1-9A202E5C01FA.jpeg
