Hey guys. My name is obviously Aaron Jones. I am 25 and live in north east Texas. I hunt Texas public land and Arkansas public land. I am brand new to saddle hunting. Ordered the Tethrd Setup during Black Friday but looks like I should have waited for the phantom lol

I am in law enforcement where I live and love my job. But right now I am actually staying at home for awhile. On January the 6th I had a hunting accident, and I fell from my treestand/saddle from about 25 feet. Not mad at any manufacturer or anything, the fall was 100 percent user error. I unhooked my bridge to climb down to get my ramrod for my muzzleloader after it fell when I pulled up my gun. After I unhooked I lost balance and fell back.
I am extremely fortunate and only broke one vertebrae and am not dead or paralyzed. I have some screws in my back and a couple of rods but will be back at before too long. I am already walking around unassisted and the pain is slowly going away.
Since I am going to be home for a few weeks I figured I would start tweaking my hunting stuff to get it ready for next year lol
I have lots of questions and several DIY projects planned for the saddle. For those still hunting, be safe and shoot a big one! Can’t wait to keep exploring the forum. - Aaron

Welcome from Ohio! Glad you're ok. You are now a living testament to the importance of following safety procedures and you can pass that knowledge on to others. It's good to have you on the forum.
Absolutely. Never in my dreams when I though that falling from a treestand would happen to me and here I am. Can’t fault anyone but myself. I actually film my hunts and got the fall on my go pro on my head. I will be passing on the footage for future hunter education classes to watch so that they will know the importance of being attached to the tree at all times.
Thanks. I can’t wait to keep learning.

This post should help folks realize the importance of putting safety first because without it we are going to get hurt it is not if it is when! Glad you are ok but please get your safety routine down before anything else!!!! Welcome to the forum! Hope are around awhile!

Absolutely. Definitely my fault. I got in the saddle several times in the back yard and felt really comfortable but I never put all my gear up, like my camera equipment and backpack and such. I should have had my routine down before heading to the woods. Again operator error.
I should be around awhile. Loving the saddle and the DIY behind it all.

Welcome sir! I'm glad you're here to share your story and remind others of how quickly things can go badly. You are very fortunate.

First of all, thank u for ur service to the community !
Secondly....Damnit! That’s terrible man. I’m sorry to hear this!
I always picture/play out different falls when I’m in the saddle and used to in the stand as well
I feel like it keeps me always thinking. Please take time to recover properly so u don’t have issues later in life from an incorrectly healed injury. I’m glad that u are sticking with it, I know it has to be hard.
Are u looking for anything specifically going forward to help or improve ur setup?
Also, I don’t know if u got ur mantis already or not but if u can cancel I’d recommend the kestrel flex kit
It will be ALOT more comfortable on ur back than anything out there currently. And with adjustable bridge from factory u will be taking advantage of current tech. Plus the predator line is a lot more substantial (mentally too) as a bridge and tether combo.
Be safe man and take ur time healing!
Let me know !

Welcome from PA. I to have a back injury from a work accident . I'm still in pain and but it is what it is. Thankfull to be alive and not paralyzed . I was thrown about 20 feet and landed on a beam I had a burst fractures in my back and shattered my right pelvic and a broken left pelvic. This happened 3 years ago. Also Thank you for your service in law enforcement.

Welcome to the site. Glad you are recovering well, lots of informationon here to dig into while you recover, just keep the credit card in another room, and locked up, or things will start showing up at the door. Trust me on this......it will happen.

I appreciate that you back the blue. I definitely enjoy what I do.
I do have the mantis and it is past the time that I could return it unfortunately. The first time in the saddle I thought something like the comfort channels on the bridge loops would be very beneficial in comfort. I plan on adding the comfort channels to it and a movable bridge to help with the comfort as well down the line. I do worry how my back will feel once I am in the saddle again and if it will hurt it. I hope it won’t.
As for recover, I am definitely taking it easy and resting to make sure everything heals properly. I definitely don’t want my back to be a reoccurring issue. I appreciate your support. I hope to learn a lot here. Thank you!

I appreciate you supporting law enforcement. It means a lot! I definitely love it.
I only had a single burst vertebrae. I couldn’t imagine the rest of it being broken as well. I hope that you are making it through it well!

Lol I had a feeling about this. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes I'm hanging in there you do the same. I feel law enforcement doesn't get enough credit for what they do . My sister-in-law and late brother-in-law were Pittsburgh police officers.

I am glad you are going to be ok. Falling is never good. I fell a # of years back and it too was operator error. I was on the fence about saddle hunting and ended up sticking with my normal LW set up. I was scared beyond belief to get back in a tree. It too was my fault. I was clipped too the lineman loop and not through it. I came down about 15 feet and broke ribs, herniated a few discs etc., so I can relate. Taking my time and with encouragement here from fellow saddle hunters I got back in a tree. I will not get in a tree now any other way now .

Man I am sorry that you fell. I definitely understand how things just happen that we never thought would happen.

a crazy thing for me though, is that I am ready to get back out there. I amready to get back into the tree already. It may become different when I actually get into the tree but I already want to be back to swinging in a saddle lol
