Good luck my man

Thank you...I did see one jumbo but he never gave me a shot opportunity at 10 yrds...thick cover. He never knew I was there...one thing different about these deer it seemed to me was their tolerance of your residual scent compared to Michigan deer. Michigan deer would have busted a nut to get to the nxt county anyway one of the local game wardens told me where I'm hunting solid 160 10 and 8 pts all day long...

Heading back to Iowa nxt week Friday the Nov 1st. I'll be there thru the 10th but I'm believing I'll shoot something nice before the 10th...wish me luck

Didn't see slot of deer but the ones I did I practiced hiding behind the trees I was in so the bucks and does wouldn't see me. This is the biggest game changer for saddle hunters in my opinion. The non resident hunting pressure in Iowa was intense to say the least. A 12pt and 10pt were shot and lost on the same ridge line I was hunting and in a matter of three days the deer vacated the area. On the fourth nite coming out I thought I was attending Doobie Brothers concert with all the lites coming off of every mountain top. I moved to another area where I could get deeper than anyone else. I used a northwest wind to my advantage and set up on a ridge top that had a big buck bed with melted snow. I set up 10 yrds from this bed at 9:30am and had him come to his bed at 4:15. Had him at 5yrds for several minutes eating ice...center punched him at 22yrds and watched him hi kick 40 yrds chest to the ground death run. It was an awesome experience as I've never had a buck come back to his bed to lay down right in front of me. He did look up at me but I was behind the tree hiding and he never spooked or thought much about what was up in that tree...Also I chose FMJ arrows thiscseason and had a clean pass thru that went right the other shoulder...unbelievable 20191108_071754.jpgScreenshot_20191110-175549_Gallery.jpg20191110_175750.jpg
If you look you'll see my buck lying thru the leaves top center about 40 yrds out

Really wasn't bed hunting like patterning a buck jumped from his bed. I was so frustrated with all the pressure I called my friend Brent back in Michigan and he suggested I look at my map and figure out where the furthest spot would be away from the hunting pressure. Long story short when I got to this spot I was going to scout this ridge from east to west with a NW wind...as soon as I went 50 yrds I saw this bed on a noel. Then I noticed how thick it was on the outside of the tree line..I said to my self if I push this top edge I'll blow anything out...just settled up on that spot, and it was the right decision. I'll post some more pics for ya...thanks alot brother

It's simply amazing how many mature bucks out there...residents really foster age and nutrition but they just dont shootem young. Here in Michigan 78% of are buck harvest are yearlings and 22% are 2yr olds. Do the math not a pretty picture. I was at the forefront here helping to make a attitude change but the DNR divided hunters and pitted them against one another. When you live in a liberal state bureaucrats take over and nothing is accomplished. Im62 and in great shape. The sad part is i have to hunt out of state to experience great rut activity and like minded hunters...go do a diy hunt my brother...once you do you'll always go back

Thanks. I'm hoping to either do Kansas or Missouri next year. Guess I better start trying to get some points in Iowa!
