Is this a fair trade?

My brother and I are working out a trade on our compound bows. Here are the details:

I have a 2016 bowtech BTX that needs a new string.

He has a 2019 Mathews Vertix in good shape.

We are each going to keep our own components off each bow so that doesn’t need to be factored in.

The current discussion is my bowtech, Novix Helo, and a diy 20” sticks I made (there decent not great) for his Mathews Vertix.

I’m intrigued by the trade but haven’t made a decision yet. I love how his bow shoots but he has trust issues with it (you know how it goes when a bow gets in your head). My thought is my bow needs a new string anyway, I’m going to need to spend around $150 (I think) doing that if I keep it. The stand and sticks probably cost around $300 total that I would give him. I’m leaning towards doing the trade. I like my bow, but don’t love it. But I do like change more than I care to admit :)

Please tell me if I’m suffering from a case of the grass being greener on the other side.

What would you do?

Does anyone shoot a 2019 Vertix? Thoughts on it?

Sounds fair & if it works well for both then even better especially with family

I haven't shot either bow but it sounds like a fair trade to me. $300 in strings and cables though sounds a bit steep to me. I'd say half that for decent strings but maybe I'm out of touch with the latest and greatest. I've priced full sets from a few reputable string making company's and none of them are over $200 and closer to $180. Just making sure you're aware of that as you may be overstating the cost to get new strings and cables for your bow.

Sorry I may have said it wrong. I know I won’t spend 300 on the string, I was figuring around $150. I was comparing that to the $300 I’d be giving him in stand and sticks.

No, my bad. I completely read that wrong! You clearly say $300 for the stand and sticks. Sorry!!

Go for it, you sound like you’re both looking for a different bow anyway. If you don’t make the deal he could end up trading it in and getting a new bow and you’re then stuck buying a new bow and lady I looked prices are all hovering around $1000.

Since he is family, is a swap for a season and then settle up after that an option? That would prevent traders remorse for both of you and avoid a family rift if one has remorse and the other doesn’t.

It's worth it from a monetary aspect for both. However, bows are a personal preference thing. I can't say that I was particularly in love with either one, but I did like the Vertix better. I was a (mostly) Bowtech guy for about 10 years and I've shot Mathews for the previous 4 seasons... I've shot all of them, and still shoot all the top brands every year before buying a new bow, and Mathews has been on top since 2018 in my opinion.

What’s your favorite bow in the Mathews lineup that you’ve shot?

I shoot a Vertix and love it. Every year I go up to the local bow shop and try the new models but the technology/feel of the bow hasn't changed enough for me to justify spending new bow prices.

The only bows I regret selling are a 2012 Bowtech Insanity CPX and the 2018 Mathews Triax. I did really like my VXR28 and I have high hopes for the V3X!

The Triax sort of set the standard for the Vertix and VXR didn’t it? I don’t know too much, but that would just be my perception. My other brother has a VXR.

@Shed84 thanks for the input on the Vertix! Any other tips or things you’ve found in using it the past couple years I’d appreciate to hear. Pm me if you think of anything!

We are going to go through with the trade so I’m officially a Vertix owner.
