Is this an upgrade? Bear whitetail hunter to mission craze

Is switching from the bear whitetail hunter bow to the mission craze an upgrade? I have used the bear since I was a kid 20-30 years ago. A friend of mine has been trying to get me to upgrade for years and is letting me use one of his old mission craze bows this year. I’m wondering since the mission is considered a youth bow if it’s really an upgrade? I’m probly old school in that if it’s isn’t broke don’t fix it! All comments welcome thanks

That thang is tiny, can you draw it completely? The old bear bow is sweet. I can’t say I would ditch it for a youth bow. Would take something else to get me to change if Id been killing deer with it for that many years.

Yes the mission is small at 28” axle to axle. It is adjustable up to a 30” draw and is able to be adjusted to 5 pounds heavier than my bear. (Bear 65 lb / mission 70 lb). Thanks

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it... unless you just want to “treat yoself” then of course get a new bow. As far as an upgrade though, could be better out there to be had. The current Bear lineup looks interesting.

I maxed out my daughters mission hype dt & shot with it, I was surprised how well it shot for short ata. As for whether you should switch, that’s up to you, I made the mistake years ago getting my dream speed bow & hated it. My buddy is still killing deer with my old darton….. that was 3 bows ago wish I still had it.

The mission crave is a nice little bow but be warned it may have some potential issues. I have messed with two of them and both bows had timing issues that made tuning difficult. Also, make sure you are happy with the back wall. It seems to have a pretty intense valley after the let off and before it hits the back wall. This caused major problems for my brother. He shot great in the yard with it but when hunting he was shooting like 8 inches high. We discovered that if he did not have the bow pulled back tight against the cam stop then he would shoot high. If your bow has neither of these issues then it should be a nice upgrade for you. Good luck.

I have a Mission Craze 2 as a backup. It is not a youth bow, it is a 'grow with you' bow! I max out at 70lbs and it shoot just as well as my Mathews Creed. It does everything you need and feel great actually. Just not the prettiest bow TBH. There are tons of reviews on it. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the input .. I have also been looking at the new Mathews VXR 28” and on paper the mission craze seems similar. Obviously a lot of newer better technology in the vxr but I like the idea of a smaller bow up in the saddle. Also it seems like the trend is going smaller… but it doesn’t take much to get smaller than where I’m coming from lol

Thanks for the input… the back wall is spongy just like my bear so it doesn’t seem any different that way. I like the idea of a smaller platform etc with the mission without sacrificing anything from switching from the bear. thanks

I think I may have the same Bear my dad bought me 30 years ago. I've since removed the limbs and plan on making a recurve out of it.

If you hunted with a large ata bow like the bear for ever then I would not go to a 28”. Yes they can be shot perfect if your form is good. But they are much more twitchy and less forgiving then a large ata bow. As said above. Hit some classifieds and shop. Bows made in the last decade are fairly cheap and flagships go for just a few hundred 2-4 years old compared to the normal 1k +- for them.

Very true, when I was considering selling my Elite I found a 2018 Kuma 33 in very good condition with an extra set of strings for 4 bills, I love my Bear bows
