It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

I think you just summed up the JX3. Is NOT gonna be the best thing since sliced bread and do everything you want. But it's a warm perfectly toasted buttery piece of bread when you get there.

I LOVE my JX3. And with that said I also still have a ground set up, I also still use a Summit climber, I also still still hunt, and I’m thinking of getting a Timber Ninjas two panel for a few places where none of the other things mentioned accomplish exactly what I need accomplished. Bottom line, I think it’s wise to have a bag full of tricks at your disposal. The JX3 is a hell of a trick.

I like the JX3 well enough that I’ve kept it around, but 4 JX3 sticks and a wide step has got to be pushing 10lbs added to a 13lb saddle. Look convenient, but adding those sticks seems like a bit of an anchor.

I bought the set and did one hunt with all four. Definitely more than I wanted to lug. Turns the whole "JX3 carries weight well" argument upside down.

But with just the wide top stick on there you barely notice it. Brought things back to the Hybrid carrying weight so well. Just have to be willing to one stick. It's so good as a platform it causes me to avoid all other potential climbing systems as it is good enough as a 1-sticker and rocks as a platform....and I refuse to carry the weight of 2 items to do both tasks.

Case in point is with the Sladder. I suspect that it would pair brilliantly with the Hybrid for climbing, but then you need a ROS or other. No way I'm giving up the wide top platform for that. I wish there was a lightweight (sub 2 lbs) platform-only option of the wide top.

I used the hybrid, sladder, and jx3 top stick on every hunt this season I climbed(not many).

I will use this going forward for every hunt I’m in a tree unless something strange happens. Too comfortable, fast, quiet, and “safe” to do anything else. I feel lucky to have landed on this.

I hear ya. It's awful close, and I admit I'm being a bit nit picky. The Sladder doesn't weigh much, but if I can already climb with the stick...I just wish I didn't have to use a 3 lb platform if I'm not climbing with it.

Most of my point in the previous post was to emphasize how awesome the wide top performs as a platform. I reached out to some folks about a version without the vertical stick (wide top platform only). We'll see if they come up with anything lighter.

Mount it on a Jim stepp.

Won’t be lighter but will be smaller.

I’ll try all four but I may cut it down to three with an aider on the bottom stick. It would be right in line with the weight of other sticks considering it also doubles as the platform. I may even given one sticking with the wide step a shot.
