It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

Any pressure points around the edge of the seat on your legs where, presumably, there is the aluminum frame?

Some - but it's padded and then has that microsuede cloth on there too. I sat four hours, and simply shifting from toe to heel on steps, moving legs open or closed, and sliding up or down in the seat a little solved it. You're still putting your body weight on a muscle and nerve. You're going to have to move at some point to relieve pressure. But the amount, and the time between, is like being in a really comfortable chair. It's a non issue. Sitting in this thing all day will be easy as pie.

I have lots of options for platforms, and I only have one sit so far. it was on four ameristeps on an OCB strap.

Thanks! So would you say the seat is at least as comfortable as the original GW? If it is, then i’m sold.

The original had a thick foam seat, and no hard edges on the bottom, and the back literally molded to your back. I had trouble using it because it was like being in bed, and I would just fall asleep if there was no action.

Speaking plainly, from a comfort standpoint, excluding heat/body temperature, no, this one is not as comfortable as the original GW. But the gap between the two is a hair from a happy place thin, and the gap between the hybrid and your minimal saddles is a football field.

If you can't sit in this thing comfortably, hunting is probably not the hobby for you. Sitting down is probably not a good hobby for you.

It's damn comfortable.

Ok guys, I have a quick video at the tree loading up, will probably take an hour. In the mean time, I'm playing with the hybrid trying to eliminate pack space needed, and attaching things i'll use on the hunt directly to the seat.

Thermacell goes first, since thermacell rules life down here. The standoff for when the Hybrid is a turkey chair(did we mention its also a badass turkey chair?!?!) fits a thermacell beautifully. Right where you need it too! I probably won't walk in with it there, unless I can make it a little more snug of a fit. We'll see its pretty convenient.

I attached my doyle's hoist to the bottom webbing frame of the seat. I would have liked it on the inside of the webbing, but when you're sitting in the chair, it would dig into back of your leg. This is still an awesome place to stow it, you'll see in video too.

And for your EZKut/Woodpecker guys - nice place to store drill for walking. Talk with @Nutterbuster for his tip on storing it while climbing...

Stepp guys, stepps lay across the bottom nicely.

Best part is you can take them out without pulling stand off your back. You can rig up a little piece of paracord to hold the seat back at an angle open, but still up, and just slide the stepps out and sling bag over your shoulder. I don't have a picture of the paracord mod yet, I'm tinkering and think I'm going to dual purpose my gear hanger you see in the video. Moot point If you're packing in layers and have to dress. But I am 100% positive at this point I can walk up to a tree and start climbing and hunting without taking anything off, and setting only my bow on the ground.

I'll post the video once it uploads.

Very cool. @Ontariofarmer I will there's some land that way I'd like to scout and now that I have started a bit of waterfowl hunting I'll have to go to Hullet.

With doyle's bow hoist, tether, linemans, carabiners, thermacel, gear hanger, It weighs 13.5lbs. I'm guessing right at 10 or under without all that stuff.

Add 7lbs for stepps/aiders( I use 4-5 stepps, then a couple for a platform), 6lbs camera gear, and I'm at 26lbs. All my other hunting accessories can go in my pocket or a small fleece fanny.

The weight is simply not a thought though, because, as designed, it's a frame pack.

Looking forward to seeing what else I can squeeze out of this sexy lemon...

I'm jazzed... but I can't help but think at 10 lbs plus my 4 lbs of WEs for climbing I might as well use my climber stand. What am I gaining?

Tree selection I guess.

Seems like it should be lighter. Say in the 6-8 lb range.

Thanks for your thoughts and the videos! Mine shipped yesterday, hoping for it to show up tomorrow and I’ll add my thoughts here as well. I’m a long time Guidos Web fan as well, I love comfort, as soon as I saw the first prototype pics I knew I would be getting one.

If it weren't a frame pack, it would be 6-8lbs. Then it would be a guido's web. Which is available used on many forums. If you hunt in cold weather and don't need a functional pack as part of your saddle, get a web.

If you hike a lot, over rough terrain, in thick cover, in hot weather, and want to be able to pack your gear and a deer back out, this might be more in line.

Or if you just want to be comfortable, and hide behind the tree no matter what direction a deer comes from, in any temperature, and not fidget with the nuances of a minimal saddle, this might work for you.

I received my new Hybrid on Monday. Today was my first hunt and it performed wonderfully. I have a lone wolf step with rock climbing aid connected to it. 4 ameristeps on a ratchet strap for a platform and it only weighs 19.4 pounds with all my essential hunting gear included. Compared to the weight of a back pack full of gear strapped to my climbing stand it feels like nothing. I sat for 3.5 hours and with a few minor adjustments, stayed comfortable throughout the sit.
Unfortunately, all I saw were a couple does, so I did not take a shot. Looking forward to many more hunts. I have been using the original Guidos web for several years, and I believe the Hybrid is a little more maneuverable in the tree. It seems to not be quite as restrictive.
I have a trophy line tree saddle also, but never enjoyed the hip pinch and the need for knee pads.
The Hybrid or the original Guidos Web are like a Cadillac compared to that style.
Good luck and happy hanging!

I asked because I have and use a GW. I like the idea of better packing up gear and the retractable whale tail. I was just hoping it would be as lazy boy comfortable. I also use a sit drag, but only early in season when the GW is too hot.

Thanks for your replies.

Decisions, decisions.

The two things that make it worthwhile to make a change or addition to the web are the ability to hunt hot weather, and the ability to pack deer and gear out comfortably.

You can mod your whale tale pretty easy to make retractable. drill out the rivets, replace front bolt with carriage bolt and thumb nut, and slot the whale tale. But the new one is way more user friendly moving in and out, and in my opinion a little easier to work around the tree.

I don't have time right now to figure out the actual way to affix the sticks to the frame or seat bottom, but wanted to give a few quick pictures showing the ideal location for folding step sticks. May need to do a little rotation to figure out fixed step sticks, but I'll look at that at some point in the next couple of days. @GVDocHoliday Here you go. I didn't strap them in in any way, just wanted to show you they fit perfectly set up this way. IMG_1007.JPG

I'll play with some other configurations and ways to attach them. But this keeps weight tight to back, evenly distributed with four, and leaves plenty of room in between for clothes, and then flip small backpack over the seat and secure with leg straps.

The more I look at it though, 3-4 sticks lashed to the bottom of the hybrid on the outside might be the way to go. I'll tinker some more later.

Thanks @kyler1945 , I'd imagine a couple of canopy bungees would suffice in securing them to the frame, then layers behind that, then the seat folded up and secured with the leg straps. Should make for a nice compact and secure load.

I couldn't help it I put them underneath the setup on the outside, and just with the leg loops wrapped around them and clipped in, it's pretty solid.

I think a couple niteize tie wraps or lashing straps and that's the place for them. If your sticks are longer than 24" it might catch brush though.

I'll take more pictures later today. I've got to get this thing out of my sight, I won't get anything done that I need to!
