John Eberhart Scentlok Suit

This past season was my first season using Scent Lok and I got good results. I went to it because the season prior I was getting busted right and left by deer early season due to switching and swirling wind. I had always been a play the wind guy, but it was just no use. The wind was switching mercilessly. This past season with the Scent Lok I did not have a deer blow at me once for wind. It was a huge difference. I will say I was pretty careful with how I used and stored the clothing, and I did deabsorb it as recommended and wore clean rubber boots. I contacted John and he emailed me his scent regimen instructions and I followed them and had very good results. It's really not that hard to keep up with a scent regimen once you learn it.

I dont use scentlok but i can chime in on activated carbon effectiveness.... I used to grow a lot of the sticky icky and i would run a carbon exhaust filter in a sealed tent. It would basically create a vacuum inside and the only air getting out came through the carbon. Definitely works. The neighbors 3 houses down would have thought cheech and chong moved in if i didnt have that filter.

I dont know about the scent seeping out the openings on the clothing though. I would think it would make a difference but its so much work and money for still having to play the wind anyway.

and im going to have to breath while im hunting. Human breath has quite the scent signature. As we get older there's only so much we can do. If its hot out im not wearing a facemask. I can breathe through my nose but i still think a buck older than 3 is going to pick up on it.

And then you have to worry about whats on the outside of the clothes. My truck smells like a landfill mixed with wet dog most days. If i keep it in a tub it will keep it clean enough but im sure it picks a little funk up when i change into my hunting gear.

I think ozone smells nauseating. It lingers on my clothes forever so i gave up on that. The washing machine and dryer both smell like chemical flowers from other laundry. THeres only so much i can do to be completely scent free so i do what i can but lean towards playing the wind now.

My brother in law uses that same carbon filter on his grow tent and I can't smell anything when I am standing right next to it. Before he bought the filter I could smell the plants when I got out of the car in his driveway.

Where is Dan's home hunting area? where does he kill most of his big bucks?

Dan hunts for the majority in Wisconsin and hunts a lot in swamps that I have seen. He has also hunted in hill country as well.

He hunts a friends farm there too from what I've watched. Generally, it seems like he hunts where he either knows of or finds sign of big bucks. But it's the swamp country that differentiate him, to me.

I don't think he'll be putting out a scentlok kit anytime soon, lol.

And why do manufacturers use any orange on camo outfits??? First Lite does it also. If a state requires orange to be worn during archery season a hat or vest can be used. I hide from anti-hunters and general nosey people more than the deer. Even when I’m on a small private parcel and a neighbor walks a dog thru I don’t want to draw attention to myself, It might not seem like a big deal to some people but for me, I don’t get it.
I dunno, I've only been hunting a few years but already have had multiple experiences where people walk right up toe with a full blaze orange vest and hat on, and don't see a thing until I talk to them. I really doubt someone would pick out those tiny pieces of orange from much more than a few feet away.

I'm looking forward to this coming out, not because I think I'll be able to control my scent the way John does, but another decent setup at a lower price point is great!

Camo looks too dark for a leafless tree for my liking. Good for sitting against a stump though. I know Camo is subjective but I prefer patterns that don’t “blob” in a leafless tree.

JE said in one of the interviews that he wanted Terra Gila camo but it would have made it quite a bit more expensive and he wanted to keep costs down and not price a lot of people out.

I also thought in one of his videos where he was discussing corn stalking, they were coming out with corn stalk pattern as well????

Yea i used to stay away from the little orange logos on stuff but it really doesnt matter. nobody will see it. deer or people. I wear flannel shirts and solid patterns while bow hunting now and it really doesnt affect anything. movement is what makes you stand out

Wonder what the hunting pressure difference is between private land in Wisconsin and public/permission in Michigan.

If I am correct, Dan Infalt has access to about 85 acres that belonged to his recently deceased friend Dave. Dave unfortunately passed away last year and in one of Dan's recent turkey videos he mentioned that the land was up for sale, and he did not know how much longer he would be able to hunt it. I don't think they pressured that land too much, only hunting it selectively. From watching his videos, I got the impression he hunts a series of large public swamps within driving distance of his home and work.

Back to the original topic of this post.... I was just cruising scentloks site and found the saddle hunter series... kind of disappointing to see they didn’t come out with bibs too :pensive: guess I’ll hold off another year and see if they expand the line and camo patterns. Mossy oak dna is the only listed pattern and I’m a real big realtree excape fan

Where was it? I couldn’t find it. Also, how much did you see it for?

I used scent lok for awhile probably up to about 5-8 years ago.
I had a copy of john’s whole scent prep , care and tactics. he sent it to me personally.
I was pretty hard nosed with it and i will say i was still busted.
I will say this , i did follow John’s regime religiously.
I Love Johnny Carbon and respect the absolute honesty and TRUE pressured public and private bucks he has killed over the years.
Unlike others who claim high pressured or public land weary bucks.
Scent lok just dont work 100% for me.
Thinking back now and changing the things i did in past and things i do now. I dont know if i would want it to work 100%
I love the challenge of beating naturally those senses of that old weary gray ghost.
I think scent lok helps and probably does help quite a bit but, I started hunting like i used to hunt years ago by hunting the wind and doing more and more research on the-certain bucks i am after.
to be honest i think hunters entry ways to your spots are most important.
after year round research of course lol.
if a deer somehow hears, see’s, or smells humans approaching them in any way.
they will become alert and spooky.
Since i changed back to hunting the wind my sightings and opportunities have soared but, when presented with a shot I myself have screwed it up.
wether i get caught moving, noise from drawing, or even a wind shift or thermal’s i myself have messed it up.
wind shifts happen and i do not think scent lok would ever help 100%.
in the last 4 years i have muffed quite a few opportunities up and there might be 1-2 that had anything to do with literally being winded.
scent lok and other equipment will instill confidence if it does so be it please use it.
what works for one may not work for another.
I guess scent lok finally made John an offer he could not refuse.
good for you @John Eberhart
its about time you get yours bro.
the suit looks awesome. Years ago John talked me into buying some scent lok and i killed a few good deer using it.
That said i have used it.
i do think scent lok makes super comfortable clothes snd i love how they fit.
use what you enjoy using and just enjoy the hunts you can get in.
life is short and people need to enjoy the life we have now.
Do you think it eliminated your ground scent from accessing your spots? I think ground scent is a major factor in burning out a area.
