John Eberhart Scentlok Suit

Just dropped.
Sold out already?????

If that's the saddle suit, kinda underwhelmed.

Doesn't look like it does anything different than any other hunting outer garment. I'm Looking for an outer layer system that goes OVER the saddle, not under it.

Not to mention the only camo option sucks.
I wouldn’t say it sucks by any means in terms of the camo and the suite. Figure the camo is designed to be used in the deep woods during the rut wich means transitions and it will do a great job at covering that and the pocket configuration sets it aside from anything else and then the built in knee pads are an absolute life and time saver. So to say something about it’s sucks I’d have to disagree I will however say I think bibs would be a much better option than pants

Yeah I’m not disappointed as it has some great features but like you I was hoping for bibs. The suit looks to me like the wind brace with added insulation and some extra features; to me that makes sense as John has said in the past that the wind brace is his favorite. I can tell you from experience the wind brake tech is legit. It absolutely stops wind.

I like the neckline of the jacket, one of John's signature touches. Overall it looks pretty nice. If they made it as a half zip with a kangaroo (muff) pocket, that would be great.

I wonder how effective the knee pads will be, especially if the pants fit big. Won't they have a lot of movement, lacking the usual elastic strapping?

I know folks use pants with knee pads and love them. But I don't have any experience there. Not a knee pad or knee pants user. I have reservations about the design.

I'm also with the bibs crowd. Especially with scentlok, I don't know why you'd wear pants. To me that just doesn seem as smart for scent containment.

I think they are trying to appeal to a wider segment so people may wear them from mid to late October through mid December, from a marketing standpoint a bib would equate to more of a late season only garment with people. Just a hunch. I don't disagree with your assessment though, especially with the built in knee pads. I rarely use knee pads anymore as I'm mostly a leaner anyway. They are ok to climb with for one sticking but they are a little noiser. I use the TL ones when I do use them.

Just looked at all the features on the ScentLoc site. This doesn’t do it for me. Could have been much better!! Would rather have a jacket I could put on over the saddle that the bridge came through, maybe some type of zip open access. The pockets high are nice but wouldn’t have been necessary if it went over saddle. Thigh pockets on pants look nice. Only other nice thing is the integrated knee pads. Not worth the money. I think most guys could modify there stuff to have everything this has. Just my opinion, I’m sure some guys will luv this product. Just thought with all that saddle experience it would have been thought out better.

Mid to late season in Northern MI and there's no leaf cover....dark blob patterns like Mossy Oak Breakup or Realtree just don't carry the water and you stick out like a sore thumb, especially when you have Mossy Oak patterns like Elements Terra and Overwatch which are far superior patterns for the application.

I'm not sure I totally agree. I've lived and hunted in MI in the northern LP, and it's not been a problem hunting from a tree or ground.

It just depends on your back cover. If you have a very open pattern but are sitting against a massive oak trunk, it's probably worse than blobbing up (as the marketers have pointed out.)

Some of the popular "open patterns" are oversold IMO. But there's some I think come close to perfect.

But you buy scentlok cause you believe in carbon, otherwise, camo galore from other brands, no?

Not to say it wouldn't be nice to have everything you want in a product either.

But you're coming in strong and I just think it's a bit too strong.

I’m gonna agree with @Plebe on account of you coming in far to strong. The man who’s basically the sole reason this twist of the sport exists is the creator. Now I don’t know you never seen your name much here either but a gaurantee John knows a bit more on this subject than you. Don’t like it don’t buy it bud but no need to degrade it in such a manner as you did

I heard John say on a podcast(cant remember which one)that the reason for this camo pattern was a cost only factor. He would prefer the Realtree Excape but it would cause the price to go up more than he/they wanted it to be. He mentioned a few things he would like to have seen done to the garment but they were just too cost prohibitive. I think if John could build the perfect garment with a low cost he would but that's just not possible at this time.

I heard him say this on the Exodus Podcast which I highly respected. I rather have something that is cost effective

On the one hand, a bridge pass through jacket is nice for heat retention. But it's got some draw backs too, maybe.

Excludes non-openable bridges, no? A bit more difficult to put on at height. Would have to have enough swag to accommodate different saddles and fits.

A zip opening would allow all bridges to come out the front of the jacket. Would need to be like a pullover(hoodie style) I actually converted one this past season and it worked great. Like I said some people will luv his design. Just isn’t what I thought was a “ saddle Hunter” design. Most guys don’t have that heavy of stuff on when they climb, they prefer to stay cool then layer. My opinion.

I guess I just don't understand your design concept.

Scent Lok is great for hunts where you sweat a lot. They don't smell the get back like cotton and other materials after a few days. It is pretty amazing. I have mostly Scent Lok and I don't expect magic out of it. It is good clothing that doesn't get stinky after multiple days in camp. Since I started wearing it I don't get winded as often. That I can say for sure. I get all my Scentlok stuff on closeout so the price is worth it for me. Their pants are awesome for saddle hunting. The open cargo pocket are basically my dump pouches. I am definitely interested in this new system, especially the coat.

I think I recall John saying in an interview that he hunts no less than 25' and up to 40'. I know when I do that I don't get busted. That probably has more to do with his success than the clothing. Where I hunt you are not going to get many opportunities at 15'. Our deer look up. For that reason I run four 30" hawk sticks. I have a double aider on the bottom and singles on the other three. My feet usually end up about 22' off the ground when in my platform. I am thinking hard about doing SRT just so I can get higher and cut weight. I have zero interest in one sticking.

Back to the original topic of this post.... I was just cruising scentloks site and found the saddle hunter series... kind of disappointing to see they didn’t come out with bibs too :pensive: guess I’ll hold off another year and see if they expand the line and camo patterns. Mossy oak dna is the only listed pattern and I’m a real big realtree excape fan
Old post but had the same thoughts

The ScentLok "Saddle Hunter" jacket just dropped (now in-stock) on the ScentLok website. "Saddle Hunter" pants aren't in-stock yet, though.
