Kiwi Klimbers Hunter model available

I'm loving mine... Still a novice in them and still figuring out which trees are good vs bad, and still exerting a little too much effort.. a little to hot/warm by the time I'm settling.

Any hints on:

1) staying cooler (besides slowing down)

2) best/worst tree selection

tethrd mantis
lonewolf hand climber / kiwi climbers

I’m in for this as well!

Most guys seem to prefer pole spurs (short spurs) since they work for most trees and feel more stable since ur boots can touch the tree.

But for very thick bark trees the long spurs (tree spurs) May be needed but they feel more unstable . Reasoning is that it puts ur boot further from tree & can cause u to pivot on the spur & feel less stable

Either will work & it all comes down to preference on how they feel I guess

For sweating and staying cool as you get better and more comfortable you will sweat less. Think about it, it’s awkward and kinda scary at first but as you get proficient you will just walk right up the tree.

As for tree advice I like trees that are bigger than a basketball. I can climb just about anything but if it’s smaller than a basketball I slow down to make sure my Gafs find purchase at good angles.

Just keep climbing and always remain calm. I’ve had a few hairy climbs and I just stay calm and use the tools available to me to stay safe, LB, tether, predator etc.

I have the long and it was def awkward at first. I have no idea how much easier Pole gaffs would have been to learn on but I would like to try them out. If tree gafs are safer I would stick with them. I don’t know If they are though, but I hear guys say that. Could just be technique.

They’re here!!!

A week from the shipping notice. Two weeks from order.

First time in spurs. Pine tree in the back yard was easy enough to get up and down. Just slow and steady. Took me ehh 90 seconds to get to hunting height. If you don’t know gloves are a must.

Maybe dumb question, do you not use any platforms with these?

You will need a platform. I run a predator and I take my spurs off because the spikes interfere with my foot position on the platform. I am guessing that you could leave them on if you run a ROS but I’m guessing you would feel more comfortable taking them off when you get to hunting hight.

Let us know if you encounter loosening or slippage please. Personally I think it’s unacceptable for them to be shipping these with straps that loosen. It’s incredibly dangerous. I had modified mine to add buckles and the slippage or loosening got me into some real hairy and dangerous situations so I Went back to leather straps. I want to buy these but not if they slip.

I'm slightly confused. What version did KK ship that slipped? Or are you expecting them to loosen because of the buckles?

I might have mixed up a different thread but I’m pretty sure within this thread folks have said the buckle straps loosen and that they are going to add the buckle keeper thingys to prevent that.

It was post #52 in this post

I just feel that safety wise they should be perfect. Especially at that price!

Ok sounds good. I'll dig through and try to find it. I also got myself into quite the pickle with a loose strap when I originally modded my Buckinghams. That situation is the reason I climb with a rappel setup.

These were sold without straps

The straps that loosened were diy straps, not factory
