Do y’all use knee pads or a cushion up the tree? What do y’all use? And if it’s a cushion how do you attach it to the tree? Thanks friends.

I like knee pads. They won’t fall, they don’t need strapped to the tree. And if you’re wearing knee pads when you get out of the tree after whacking a deer, it’s nice to have them on during tracking/gutting.

I am a leaner, so I don't usually use them, but I do have a set of trophy line knee pads that when the are on I don't even notice are there. I use them more for rifle hunting when I might be taking prone shots. I put them on at the truck and don't take them off until I get back. I think a pad and a way to connect it to the tree would be just 2 more pieces of gear to carry.

For me, knee pads work the best. I one stick and there are times where it’s helpful to have a knee against the tree. Also, as mentioned previously, I love having knee pads on when I’m tracking or field dressing the deer. My knees just don’t handle sharp objects.

knee pads....i climb with steps and it is nice to rest with a knee on the tree while strapping on a step

I use knee pads too and I've got the trophy line ones also. I climb SRT most times, and it's nice to set use my knees against the tree and set the platform on my thighs when I'm attaching it to the tree. I also like using them if I need to plant my knee against the tree to steady when shooting around the tree.

I use kneepads. Tried the cushion thing and it was just more bulk that i did not wanted to carry.

I've tried both and I like a pad. I would recommend trying both and seeing what you like. Knee pads make my legs itchy and uncomfortable. The pad I use doesn't take up any room and is super light. Slips right in my pack and it has its own strap with a plastic buckle. Simple and easy.

I prefer a pad. I strap it on my mission and it keeps the hump off my back. I can use it for a ground pad too if I want to hunt from the ground. It gives me more cushion than knee pads and my legs always got sweaty with pads.

Kneepads. Find a comfortable set and you won’t even know you’re wearing them.

Cushion for me. It also serves as padding fir my LWHC as I carry it slung over my shoulder.

I use shock cord and a little sliding hook hardware piece for securing it to the tree.

So basically what everyone is saying is personal preference, like 99.9% of what we do. I would try a cushion first, probably cheaper.

Knee pads here, always where I need them when walking a ros
If im moving around a tree my knees arent touching at that point. I feel like tht would want to swing you back to your resting position wher my tether is. I never really got into ros though so maybe im picturing it wrong. Feet couldnt handle it

When I walk around the steps to make a shot I always brace at least one knee against the tree to steady myself. I also shift around the tree for things like a change in wind direction or to get out of being high-lighted by the sun or hide from game.
Big trees or little trees, my knee pads always have it covered unlike a pad which may not provide enough coverage depending on how far I shift.

Knee pads are always part of my gear, I wear them always while in the woods. Keeps my knees dry if ground is damp. I use a Chinese knock off of the Arcteryx I got off Ebay
