Kuhnerts Ambush

I’ve been looking at these. Mostly for the size and the packing of the LWCG mini sticks combo. Basically carry with the shoulder straps. I talked with the lady in customer service and she said they are working on a smaller version that will fit in the Wolfpack backpack.

To be honest I have not been using mine.
It is lighter but smaller as well.
I will move a bit, not enough to make you nervous but it does.
The backpack straps just don't work for me.
I mean it carries the stand but it kinda sags no matter which way I install them with stick, rappel rope ect..
Sometimes I remove my glove and it is rough on the hands.

Its a great stand in its own right.

My brother has the mission.
I will get to compare them soon.
It is certainly less expensive so that factors in the comparison.

For weight savings is great and compact for storage and transport as well. Good benefits but the question boils down to several things.
How light, how small, how flexible, how stable, weight capacity.

#170 guy in Alabama might love it,,
#280 guy in Wisconsin winter might have reservations.. All different needs and preferences.

I need to decide if I'm keeping, trading or selling my ambush.
No rush, its paid for.

Any feedback on this yet? Haven’t seen too many reviews on YouTube. Considering picking one up this year. I’m new to saddle hunting and currently just have the saddle. Trying to figure out the best platform/climbing stick combo.

Well I can tell you the LWCG Ambush is amazing, I have hunted out of it a ton of times and absolutely love it. I have not had an issue with the slight movement that some people have expressed. This platform is rock solid. The LWCG team did make an improvement to how the teeth dig into the tree. IMO there is not a better platform. I also run 2 of the LWCG Double steps with cable aiders. Here is my set up but use 2 sticks with aiders now. I pack them with J-Hoops

Agree . IMO the best platform out there. Love mine and I e tried several others. For me it’s the righ size and I’m a bigger guy. Bites into the tree and is rock solid.

Wish the double steps would pack right on the ambush. But for the few practice one sticking runs we have done the ambush is awesome.

This is good to hear. I just bought 2 of them in the classifieds. Waiting for them to get here to try them out. These new models coming out do nothing for me.. I want room and lite weight. The Ambush appears to do that for me. Time will tell.

The main reason I switched to a saddle is that they allow me to hunt large trees specifically cottonwoods. Many times there have been ideal trees in the perfect spot but they were too large to get a LW in. They are almost impossible to get a strap around quickly quietly and safely. I quickly realized that on long sits a platform is ideal specifically a large platform. Predator was too small but held tight. The Ambush size seemed ideal. So I picked up 2 in the classifieds. I tried them out on a large cottonwood in the yard. Because the size of the tree I couldn't get it tight enough to not kickout with side pressure. Only the very outside tooth on each side was biting in. The other teeth weren't touching at all. This is on a 22" tree. On a 12" tree only 2 teeth touch. The angle of the teeth is too tight. So the MOD begins! Today I'm heading over to a friend's shop. We're going open the angle slightly wider than the Predator so that more teeth bite in. I'll post back with the results.

I really wish these things cammed better. By that I mean not having to climb down off the thing to reset it.

By opening up the V, it's going to change how it cams. They definitely cam different. I'll let you know.

If you open the v up much the center post becomes unusable. The way they built the flat fold holds the platform too far away from the tree to able to cam it like predator or mission. Only way to fix that is add dog ears with new center post or a straight post and not fold flat. Mine I just didn't worry about it folding flat. No offense....but looks like there are a few things you didn't worry about lol. Great idea tho.

Not sure what you did there. Is that even an Ambush?

Well it was when I started. I tried at first just opening the v up so it would fit trees better and cam easier. But I soon found out the L shape of post doesn't allow the post to pull into tree far enough to flatten the v out. That is why the v is on such a steep angle to get it far enough from the tree to tighten. So then I just started cutting and rewelded it back to what I wanted. It is amazing how little flex it has now that there is full contact with the tree.Screenshot_20200809-214817.pngScreenshot_20200809-214933.png

So we didn't even do the mod. My buddy was pretty busy building cattle guards. I could tell he didn't have a lot of time. However He came up with an interesting idea. It won't work for most guys but it works for my situation. I hunt private land and have permission to do as I please. All of my trees are preset with either ladder sticks or are spiked w/ anchor bolts. There's only a few that are really big but 3 are in absolutely perfect locations. Downwind of doe bedding w/ easy undisturbed access and exit. Multiple P & Y bucks have been seen going by these trees. In the past, I couldn't hunt them because they were too big to get a LW in. The trees I could hunt were good trees but the big ones were always just out of range. Anyway His idea was just cut a 18" long 6"thick log in in half and lag it to the tree. I went home and tried it in my backyard. It actually is pretty solid! The teeth dig in pretty good. Definitely doesn't kickout w/ side pressure. I'm going to try an 8" log tomorrow.

That's interesting. Never heard of anyone doing that. What are you attaching your strap to? Going all the way around or just around the lagged log?

I tried this awhile back... did not stick with it, but it brings the pivot point further back (more even with the platform teeth) and allows the post to get more parallel to the tree. You can see the difference in the side images.
It's just a LWCG stick tree bracket.
May be something for you to try. I also have (2) 3/4in wide DanO tree brackets so I wouldn't have to loose one off my mini stick.

One pick shows original bracket and the others with the LWCG stick bracket.
