Besides send cut send or oshcut, does anyone know of any other laser cutting services available? I’m struggling to find someone who has 6061 aluminum plate that’s thicker than 1/2”

Also, I’m looking for someone to help me design something to send these places a file to have some pieces cut.

Any leads are appreciated!

Big money....u know they charge by the inch right?

I don’t know much about any of it. I’m trying to find out. And if it’s something I think is a good idea and investment, I may be willing to put money into it.

The thickness might be the/an issue @.500 maybe waterjet would be better? If you live in an area the Alro steel serves they offer laser

Do you just need help with CAD to send out to cut or are you looking for design input too?

I would need someone to design it for me. I’m sure I could sketch a drawing to get my point across, but I was worried 1/2” plate might not be sturdy enough for my idea.

In a prior life I was a cad designer. Used autocad, inventor, Cadra, microstation, solidworks and proEngineer. Only one I currently have is autocad. I can probably assist but time is limited. Been traveling a lot for work.

Have you checked any of your local blacksmith welding shops? We had a local company draw up, and building a design for us at work. They have all kinds of fun stuff they play with.

Awesome, I’ll reach out in the morning to some of you. Thanks all for the feedback.

Are ur parts small or large like a platform base? Not trying to poo poo ur ambitions.... I'm just saying with u buying material (and the upcharge for not buying a full sheet) the up charge for u being some joe smo off the street (some places around here u gonna have to set up an account just to do business with them), lazer by the inch and/or minute of cut, u might end up with a 900 dollars platform

Yea when we were playing around with platform ideas the prototype was like $1400 or more depending on if it were etched, water jetted, or cast (cast molds are expensive for a 1 off)…. That wasn’t including the price of the aluminum.
@Mschmeiske you might be better to reach out to a metal works manufacturer and purchase the material through them. You can use them to cut and finish as well.

I have been a design engineer in a sheet metal company for 8 years. Laser cutting anything .5" or thicker is a royal pain and most companies avoid it at all costs so the demand for the thickness you are looking for is very low demand. Try looking into 3d printer or thinner plates that get welded together.
