Late Season Camo

Interesting. I find the Sitka products to be some of the quietest products I've ever used. Both the Status and Fanatic lines.

I've heard the fanatic is quiet but the Stratus has a distinct crinkle in the windproof membrane. Probably not enough to matter in most hunting situations but drawing a recurve at sub 10 yds in the Stratus will almost always cause a deer to hear you. It's better than most but, I'm still in the lookout for something quieter.

Im 5’7 200lbs 33in waist…Scentlok peeps, what do you recommend for Bibs/pants? I may be on an impromptu shopping spree.

Assuming medium, but curious how they fit the rest of you.

KYRanger, don't get me wrong, Sitka is plenty quiet. I bowhunt in it late season and have taken bucks at 12 and 8 yards and several does as close as 6 yards. I have the older Fanatic and they say the newer version addressed the slight crinkle factor.

It's hard to say but I would think large if you plan to layer. I am 30" waist and I have the Medium Savanah early season pants and I can wear the Coldgear storm fleece pants under them with a coldgear base layer also. The pants I bought have a drawstrap and buckle on the hips where you can cinch then in an inch or so. With no layers I have to wear a belt with them early season.

The Elevated Forest Stratus Jacket is crinkle free. I wear it a ton. It's silent. The membrane in the EV Forest bibs however makes some noise. It's mostly noticeable when walking.

I haven't hunted with my EVII Stratus Jacket, but didn't notice a crinkle when trying it on. I'll have to take a look at that. Didn't get EVII bibs.

I have a Scentlok coat that is similar to the Stratus line, maybe the Taktix. It definitely has a crinkly membrane. It also fit me big and I was going to return it, but I never got around to sending it back so I have been using it to absorb scent from my non-sentlok stuff. (I don't know if that works).

Anyway, I finally ended up using this Scentlok coat in MD this year (a first for me) because it's a touch lighter than the Forest Stratus coat and temps were mild. It didn't spook game. Had encounters with a great stag and super WT buck and had numerous hinds within feet of my trees and bunches of does. Wish I could blame that crinkly coat for not punching my tag on the Stag or buck, but that was my fault, not the coat.

I sometimes wonder if I'm more sensitive to my perceived tells than deer are, but I'm with you, it's hard to risk it. I just don't have time for fool's errands.

I too have found that my first lite stuff does not cut wind. I don't know about the new stuff but my woodbury is useless if it's breezy. I plan on picking up some Huntworth stuff this offseason.

Do you think the Hydrotherm is the warmer jacket?

I see:

Hydrotherm = 150G in body & 100g in sleeves and hood
Revenant = 100g in body, 60g in sleeves

But the Revenant adds what looks to be a warmer interior fabric.

I had the same question.
In addition, I am always a bit cautious about what some people call "late season".

It is possible there were some earlier versions or different membranes that made noise. I am super critical of noise in my clothing, for the very reasons mentioned, which is one of the reason I went with Sitka. When the woods are cold and silent, deer can probably here you breath inside of 10 yards!

A crinkly membrane wasn't the source of the noise complaint regarding the o.g. EVII Fanatic Jackets, it was a noisier berber fleece shell. They addressed it. I'm sure product release videos talking about that are still out there. That said, those gen1 EVII fanatic jackets weren't "loud" imo.

The quietest Fanatic was prior to EVII.

The membrane on my Forest Stratus bibs, now it surprises you. You definitely hear it on the move, but it's not something I notice when on stand.

Good discussion.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Scentlok has come up with and hope at these year's end prices it stands up to the "premium" stuff. I have had good luck with the brand.

What's the sizing like on the Revanent Jacket. The first two reviews are guys that are 5'10" 180 and 5'11" 190 both recommending the XL but the second page has some newer reviews from guys that are 6'2, 220lbs saying the large fits them. I'm 6' 185lbs and ordered the XL but, thinking it may be too big now
It’ll be too big. Well, it depends how you want it to fit. I’m 6’1”, 220 with a 45” chest and the large fit me perfect with a vest as the mid layer. If you’re wanting to throw a thicker layer for your mid layer, say maybe something like primaloft you may want to go xl. Scentlok primarily serves bow hunters so their upper layers tend to fit snugly in the arms.

Another option is Natural Gears Wintercepter line. I’m not sure about the newer version which is smoother with a bonded fleece but the older version which had the high loft fleece was stupid warm. I wore the suit(top and bottom) in a snowstorm in 25 degree weather and was sweating. Matter of fact I dozed off(think I was getting sick) and my hunting partner walked right past me I was covered in snow. He said I looked like a husky all bundled up. Nat Gear are good people too, they are very helpful and knowledge about their products.

I feel like this is a good point because I forget sometime that people on here are from different places. Some people’s cold Is 40 and others cold could below zero.

Bummer. I ordered XL based on their sizing. Sounds like I'll have to return mine. Already have tracking info so I'll wait and see.

Another set is a set I have for sale right now, Under Armours Rut Windproof bibs and jacket. They’re Berber on the inside and high loft exterior. Their website says the temp range is 40-60, well I wore just the bibs with a hoodie in 40 degree weather and I was toasty. Once the sun slept and the mercury dropped i donned the jacket at about 30 degrees and couldn’t zip it I was so warm. I really really REALLY love these bibs but they are just too warm for me.

Fingers crossed, maybe you’ll get a smaller XL. They have a very easy return policy.

Yeah, I'm torn. I'm thinking about ordering a large also before they sell out and send the one back that doesn't fit. I'm not sure if you can return their sale items? Might have to call tomorrow and find out.

Yup you can. I do it all the time. I’ll order a L and XL and send back the one that doesn’t fit.
