So this will be my first year saddle hunting and as you can imagine I'm still trying to figure everything out. I have the basics down and have been doing pretty good so far. I came out this morning to check some trail cameras and test out my ROS vs my platform (or perhaps a combo fo both). Anywho, as I was dangling, relaxing and reading SH, my foot bumped the cam buckle for my ROS and there i was, feet sliding down the tree. 2 things, I was only 6ft off the ground, and most importantly, my climbing stick was where I could get to it sans ROS. I have now realized that no matter what method I use, my sticks will not be far from my feet (they actually make a decent foot placement as well. Anyways, hope this slight snafu helps someone.

I don’t want to be rude but it’s very clear what the problem is here. You messed the whole thing up with that go Steelers business! It’s go SAINTS. WHO DAT!!!

I always had issues with the ring of steps and stepping on different parts of the ring and the idea of moving that much. I used the “t” on my sticks for years. So happy with my platform.

You might be on to something. The Steelers have been playing about as good as my ROS worked out today. Its pretty pathetic

Not sure where you locate the ocb in relation to your expected hunting position but here's how I set up my ROS. I keep steps at roughly 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 o'clock with ocb around 1 o'clock and hunt from 6 o'clock so I my feet never cross paths with the buckle.
It's good when these things happen during practice sessions and glad you're okay.

Yeah, the buckle will be on the backside of the tree from now on. I'm glad his happened in "test mode" and not 20+ feet off the ground. I have to say that I really like the ROS.

Speaking of bumping into cam buckles, is anyone else not at least mildly nervous about the design of the stock cam buckles for the Hawk Helium sticks? The whole lever sticks out proud of the entire buckle with no ears to prevent accidental loosening. And with the length of the stock buckle, it places that lever pretty close to the step. I mean it takes a decent amount of force to loosen one that's seated right, but still...

I didn’t like Hawk sticks when I used them. LW cam straps are best I have used so far, and I really like the one on my Predator also.

I bumped my cam buckle on my LW Assault while swinging to my sticks on a small tree. The stand was bitten in so hard that when the strap “popped” loose I thought someone shot me with a muzzleloader from the sound. I’m so lucky I was wearing my LB and that my stand was hooked in with the EZ hang.

I've used hawk sticks for years with the stock straps. Thought they worked really well and was never worries about accidental release. Once the buckle is cinched and pulled tight what are you doing over there anyway? Climb the dang stick and get to killing deer.

Mine are so dang hard to open I really have to squeeze. How old were they that it opened when u bumped it? Was the spring worn on it?

They were only a couple of years old but I hit it pretty hard with my palm trying to brace myself against the trunk and not paying attention to hand placement on the smaller trunk where the buckles were closer to important things like hand-holds. I probably had it too tight in the first place also, but I actually thought the springs were working pretty well to hold that tight under that much pressure from the cam lock. Scared me sh**less but I should have been paying more attention.

Yikes. That's terrifying, glad it worked out ok... I mean at least better than the alternative

It just shows that anything can happen. I would have been just as freaked out by your ROS snafu there. Autopilot is a risky business.
