Let's see those pre-sets!

anyone preset with paracord and then pull the rope up, set and SRT?
probably the only *legal* preset option on public. I guess that requires a limb or something too, eh?
Yeah that's pretty standard NY Saddle Hunter & JRB rope climbing fellers. I have a bunch out.

Saw this thread was back up so I'll post up another preset I did a few weeks back on private. Another bolt and spike set up. Man, these are nice when I can use them. I used grade 8 bolts for the steps up and 10 inch 3/8 landscape spikes (I bough a 50 Lb box). All I have to do is climb the tree and hook up and hunt. This stand covers a trail in very thick cover up to a green lane about 80 yards to the north. The idea is to catch anything staging up to go to that green lane in the evening in daylight. Private land set ups could spoil me if I'm not careful.

What in the world? Are you using a hammer and nails or what?

For the 3/8 grad 8 bolts I used the bit Treehopper sells for the cordless drill and then just slip the bolts in the holes. They come right out if you want. For the ring of steps I used 10 inch 3/8 steel landscape spikes. For those I bought a 5/16 Irwin Speedbore bit (just like a Treehopper bit with the little screw on the tip just longer and smaller diameter.) On the 5/16 bit I put a steel stop sleeve with Allen screws so I can set the depth. I drill the 5/16 hole about 3 inches deep then drive the spike in the hole with a shop hammer. They aren't coming out easily. A crowbar might get them out.

On top is the 10 inch spike and bit. Under that is the grade 8 bolt and Treehopper bit

That looks like it would be painful on your privates If ya slipped

I don't have any pictures, but I climb the tree with steps preseason and tie a paracord loop around the tree attaching to a limb above where my tether will go. I tie a 4 inch stainless steel ring to the paracord so it hangs down from the paracord. I then run a length of paracord through the ring, around the tree, and back through the ring, then both ends to the ground or 3 foot above. Tie the ends together leaving one end a little longer which then becomes your attachment point for the SRT rope. If you don't have a limb, just tie the cord hanging the ring really tight. It doesn't support anything except to guide the cord and rope.
