Let's talk Flashlights for blood trailing

Hands free!

Do you like it? How long does a charge last?

That would be perfect if it has a red or green setting.

yeah I just double checked and there Are some cheaper out there. Amazon has it for $90 and they are always my first stop. So you say worth $50 or so?

I think it is worth $50 or so. I just looked at my order history. I have the Primos Bloodhunter HD. It was $65. It will help track deer in the dark. If it helps me track a single deer, it was worth it.

Lots of the backpacking guys suggest zebra headlights. I think I'm gonna get this one or the 4000k one. http://www.zebralight.com/H600Fd-Mk-IV-18650-XHP502-Floody-5000K-High-CRI-Headlamp_p_219.html
Here is the comparison and specs of them. Not many companies break it down with so much detail. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...dit?hl=en&authkey=CNqP6KIC&pref=2&pli=1#gid=0

I want a light that uses a 18650 rechargeable lithium battery that I can plug into my power pack to charge, which stays in my pack to charge my phone if need be. I wanted a light that I could change the brightness level. The ultra low lumen setting will work great once I get to my tree or while at spike camp fixing a mountain house meal. Medium to low level for hiking in, and high level if I need to look way ahead.

I'm currently using https://www.fenixlighting.com/product/fenix-hl60r-rechargeable-headlamp/ but the red is basically useless. Have to put my hand in front of my face to see if it's on. And it's kind of heavy and bulky for a small headlight. The zebra will be an upgrade and the fenix will be a backup.

I’ve been pouring over light info that operates on 18650 batteries last couple weeks. I want a headlamp, handheld 2,000 (or more) lumen light, 4 bank charger, and a device that will hold one battery I can charge my phone with. Been looking at nitecore and Fenix stuff. Called and talked to both and still undecided. I was interested in a zebra but went to their site and no phone number so that’s a no go for me.

Have you looked into the Fenix hm65r??

It is bright as ALL HECK, and runs for a very long time. It rubs off of 18650 batteries, which are rechargeable. I really haven’t tested how long it will last. I charge the batteries once every 2 weeks or so in season....

I just looked into the Fenix hm65r. I think I'd still rather the size of the zebra being it's close to the same price. One thing that caught my attention is the charging port is usb-c so I'd have to pack another cable or extra battery. So that made me look back at the zebra light and I noticed it has no charging port. Didn't catch that before. In reality, I should never have to charge a light in the field. I always carry a spare light. And if it was to go out, I'd grab the spare before I put it on charge. Only scenario I can see needing to charge a flash light in the field is on an elk hunt and we have to quarter an elk out at night using a lot of light for a good period of time, then continuing to stay out there for several more days. But it's easy enough to just bring another full battery and still have a separate back up light.

Okay so maybe I will have to look more at the zebra. They get killer reviews from everyone. I have no idea how to pick one though even after looking at the spreadsheet!! I know I want powered of 18650s, after that I get lost. Any particular reason you are looking at the one you mentioned specially?

The H600 and H604 are the headlight models that use 18650 batteries.
Then I narrowed it down by the beam. There are the Flood, floody, and spill+spot.
Flood = 120deg
Floody = 90deg
spill+spot has a bright center and flood ring around.
I wanted a solid beam but not too wide where it drowns out my brightness. I'm hoping thats the floody. I have no hands on, just watching youtube reviews.
So having a 18650 battery, and floody beam narrows me down to H600F (cool white 5700K), H600Fw (neutral white 4500K), H600Fc (neutral white 4000K), H600Fd (neutral white 5000K). I don't want the H600F because its cool white and it will be too blue. The H600Fw isn't a high CRI lamp, which people say a high CRI is better for seeing color. So that leaves the H600Fc and H600Fd that have a high CRI lamp. Just need to choose if I want 5000K or 4000K.
Thats what I'm coming up with my research, if I'm understanding it all correctly.

Dude...thank you so much. That helped a bunch. I'm going to be getting a headlamp, a handheld that uses 2 18650s (either a Nitecore or Fenix), a 4bank charger from one of the aforementioned companies, 4 batteries, and a single bank battery charger that also has a discharge function so I can charge my phone with it and will serve as a backup battery.

https://www.fenixlighting.com/product/fenix-hm61r-multi-use-headlamp/ This looks good too and has different stage red light. I just don't know what lamp or the beam. I'm thinking it has a spot and spill but they don't say exactly.

No problem. Only took me an entire day to make since out of the info on their page. lol

That’s what I think I’ll get. Can’t wait to hear your review.

So the zebra got returned. Must use flat top batteries only. Number one purpose for building a system for lighting and powered was so that everything ran off the same batteries. I got a Fenix headlamp, h61r I believe is the model. Plus my experience with getting answers to questions from zebra left a lot to be desired, I mean a lot!!

This kill light is somewhat expensive, but if registered has a lifetime warranty, comes with 3 different color lights and 2 rechargeable batteries. Has excellent brightness and battery life. I left one in an air conditioning evaporator drain pan for a year then returned to the same house and found it. Put in a new battery and it worked like a champ ( with a little corrosion of course)

Not sure what a flat top battery is. 18650s come in different styles?

Oh yeah. Flat top, button top, protected, non-protected, and different output levels. Different combinations of the aforementioned. The zebras also require high output 18650s that are flat top and maximum 69mm in length. Just keep all that in mind if you plan to more stuff that runs 18650 batteries. Might as well make sure everything will run the same battery or there really is no reason to do it.

Just ordered this headlamp. Less expensive option ($35 to $40) with a little lower lumen output. Gives 600 lumens for about one minute on "turbo" setting, if you use 14500 Li ion rechargeable. Will also use AA, but turbo isnt as bright. Will update the post after I've tried it on a blood trail...
