Lets talk hammocks

At this point, I'm strictly a curious, window shopper for hammocks but I'm really drawn to something like an Amok style hammock. I like that you can side sleep, back sleep, or whatever. Amok come with a pad so I assume UQ would only be needed in extremely cold weather.

One other thing that I wonder about is the feasibility of rigging 2 Amok hammocks from the same 2 trees. Basically head to head. I doubt my wife would want her hammock to be located a distance from mine. I assume it isn't very feasible to hang 2 banana style hammocks from the same 2 trees but it looks like you could with an Amok. It that possible?

I’ve never rigged two hammocks from the same two trees but I’ve rigged the head end of both mine and my sons hammock from the same tree and then had two separate trees some degrees apart for the feet ends of our hammocks. That works well.

This triangle method that GCTerpfan is referring to is MUCH more comfortable than hanging 2 hammocks from the same tree. When utilizing the same 2 trees and spreader bars, both hammocks move each time either person does (toss/turn or gets in or out of their hammock). Also, if there is a significant weight difference, there may be some extreme teetering and yo-yoing going on :D

My wife not being on board with the hammock camping is why I went the tent route instead. Since I do more camping with her than solo it didn’t make sense to buy another sleep system. We have a car camping tent and a back packing tent. We each have ENO double hammocks and I’ve been tempted to get a bug net and rain fly several times but never pulled the trigger. I’ve been tempted by the EWO stuff but having to buy expensive under-quilts as well is not appealing.

I use a regular old rectangle sleeping bag as my underquilt...u use 550cors or equivalent and do the same.thing as a fleece saddle and make a bridge at either end and clip to the hammock biners. Couple chip clips and u can fully cocoon yourself

I’ve done this before as well and it worked pretty well. I did struggle to get comfortable though. I’m temped to try a ridge line.

This is the type of hammock that I am referring when I asked about hanging 2 of them from the same 2 trees. Basically one facing 6 o'clock and the other facing 12 o'clock. It's probably not that simple. Might need them at 2 different heights or something.
If it can work, then it sure would simplify choosing a camp with 2 adequate trees and would also keep the wife happy.

Convenience, good sleep or a happy wife. Choose 2. ;)

What is there to be tempted about? I can’t imagine not using one.

Use your sleeping pad in the hammock. I’m just as comfortable and warm with an insulted sleeping pad as I am an underquilt.
