Talk about and post pics of your lever action rifles here. My dad started me out with a old Marlin Glenfield 30-30. Took several deer with it till he bought me a 30-06 for Christmas when I was 19. That was in 1994. Several of our family members and friends took their first deer with Dads old Marlin too. Its a family heirloom. It has caused me to have a life long love of lever actions. Im sure many of you all are fond of them too. So lets make this thread a fun place to show and talk about all things lever action. I will go first with Dads rifle and some of my recent projects.

1:) Dads
with my first buck as a gun rack.
2:) A project rifle for my grandson. Marlin 30-30. Refinished the would. Will wear a leupold and high rise mounts.
3.). Recent purchases. Early 90's Win Ranger angle eject and a Mossberg 464 Marinecoat carbine. Both in 30-30.

The ranger will have high rise mounts and a compact Leupold 2.5-8x36 when done. Will hunt with this one sometime. Currently refinishing the wood. The mossberg will be tacticooled with a scout rail, sig romeo 5 red dot and surefire flashlight mounted. You just cant have too many HD weapons. Will post pics later on when done. Will be at-least a few months out.

Update:
I finished my tactical lever build. The 464 now wears a XS lever scout rail, Sig Romeo 5 red dot, and a Surefire G2X LE 600 lumen flashlight with a Elzetta Mount. The sling is a butler creek. Will be adding a elastic ammo holder to the stock soon. Very happy with it. Will find out how it shoots very soon. It will be a HD and truck gun when needed.

I got a marlin 336 30-30 that my grandfather got for me on my 12th birthday (legal hunting age in PA). Hands down my favorite gun for whitetail. I plan on doing a full break down and clean this year and replacing the glass with a new vortex and maybe refinish the stock. Hesitant about refinishing the stock because I still remember what the scratch’s and scuffs are from that happened on past hunts. Can’t wait do the same for my son when he gets old enough.

That rifle deserves good glass, will hopefully be still taking deer 50 years from now. I dont blame you on the stock. I just couldnt bring myself to refinish Dad's.

I’ve got my dad’s 336 30-30 that my son, daughter, and myself have all killed deer with. I also have my granddad’s marlin 39a and his set of Winchester 94 100 year centennial of the model 66 carbine and rifle. I know it’s not a lever but I also have a 1953 Remington 141 .35 rem that’s probably 95% or better original finish.

You have some nice rifles. The .35 sounds interesting.

I like the .35 but it’s picky with reloads. When it was designed there was only one length of cartridge. I’d like to have a 336 in .35 someday.

Liking the pics and learning a lot. I’m actually looking to get a lever action .30-30 to deer hunt with so this is a good inspiration thread.

I hand loaded some 100gr jacketed hollow points for the 30-30. They have no recoil at all and zip along pretty quick. Very pleasant for the kids to shoot when they were smaller.

To Ckwilli, Awesome pics of your kids. I would say about every post in here will have a family connection. The .35 is a fantastic deer cal but I cant bring myself to add another caliber to tool up for with reloading. Almost impossible these days to even find the components.

Keep your shots reasonable and well placed and it want let you down. You dont have to have a shoulder and ear busting chunk of steel to hunt with, the 30-30 has taken millions of deer.

Ironically, it was the lever action Savage 99, or likely the .300 Savage caliber that made Remington phase these sleek carbine pumps out.

I don't own a lever action, but wish I did. Aside from collectible models, I've always admired the BLR's lines, and takedown features, but they had some magazine issues if I recall so I never picked one up. Now they are expensive to buy.

I saw a PA hunter with a .30-30 freehand an easily 100yd+ shot at a running deer from a ground blind with a fire pit, while roasting hot dogs. Helped him drag the deer. In the right hands, they'll do the trick.

I've had two 336's in .35 caliber. Perfect deer gun for northern Michigan. My daughter now carries my .35. That thing drops deer on the spot inside of 100yds. To compare it to my 30-06, I get a little better range from the 30-06 but the bullet from it always blows completely through the deer and I sometimes have to follow them 40-50 yds to recover them. The energy of the bullet passing through is lost.

With the .35, I would bet on 90% of the deer I have shot with it the 200 grain bullet was found just inside the skin on the backside of the deer. All of the energy of that bullet ends up in the deer. It knocks them off their feet and they don't get up. Great whitetail round.

I also reload the .35 as shells are getting hard to find but I've had decent results with it. I really don't notice a difference between my reloads and factory ammo.

The only firearm I regret selling was an early BLR in .308. I still kick my own butt over that one.

My first deer rifle, about 25 years ago from a pawn shop for $200. Marlin 336 in .35 rem. Still killing them with it and trying to get my son his first kill with it.

Pic is a double up morning from last year (2019). Shooting the leverevolutions
