Lighted nock fit troubles

So I got some nocturnals that I shoot on my compound and also are the same size needed for my trad arrows, only problem is they are really loose on my trad bow string and I’m worried about them falling off the string when I draw. Anyone have experience with this or have a lighted nock that has a tighter throat. My string is a D-97 16 strand string. Thanks.

I had this on nocks I got from Amazon, same design as nockturnals, but generic Chinese branding.

They were lose in my arrows and ruined my groups. Switched back to factory plastic nocks and fixed it right up.

I tried using a bit of paper pressed in around the lighted nocks to make them tighter and a mix of the right amount of padding did help, but I also hated how they would light up when I nocked them on my string and couldn't be turned back off without fiddling with a tiny screwdriver or knife blade in the "control hole", which couldn't be done on the string.

I have switched to Woody's Archery Group (Facebook group) nocks that fit snug by default and have an actual switch controlling the light that I can click off if I accidentally light it while nocking.

Edit: derp. I misread your problem. The nocks I mentioned are tight on my compound string, but have sufficient plastic that it can be slightly sanded to loosen up.

Yeah, mine my knock offs were loose too. The real nocturnals are a little better. The lumenocks are much better. I just don’t like the way they turn off and on.

No worries, they’re legit nocturnals and fit my compound fine. Just my recurve string is a smaller diameter I guess.

May have to try, I don’t need them for my trad set up arrows but it’s nice to see the shot placement.

When my nocks are loose on the bow string I wrap a bit of dental floss around the serving and that takes care of it. I like the waxed stuff but that seems to be getting harder to find but the unwaxed stuff works fine but doesn't hold up quite as well. It generally lasts a few months of shooting 20-30 arrows a day. If you shoot less it should last longer, if you shoot more you'll have to replace it but it only takes a few minutes and you can make the serving as thick as needed to get the correct nock fit onto the string.

Thanks, I may have to try this. My practice nocks fit ok, still a little loose but don’t just call off like the nockturnals. If I do this prior to hunting it should last. Never had an issue with this, guess trad strings are smaller diameter or less serving. Either way..

I would recommend bare shafting with the lighted nocks to make sure they don't affect your tune.....I have had some negative results when bare shaft tuning with the lighted nocturnal nocks versus a standard nock....

The proper way is to reserve the center serving on one of the bows so that both strings are same diameter, in this case using thicker serving on the trad bow is the best solution.

Edit. Curious on the arrow spine selection between the two bows, I find it odd trad and compound would need same spine arrow.

They don’t, both are completely different set ups. Compound has 300 spine and 400 for trad. I think I just need to get some serving and learn how to do that myself.

Not hard at all. Just takes a little practice to keep the tension consistent but that's not bad either with a serving tool like shown in this video.

We used to just wind some sewing thread on the nock area until the fit is good when we were shooting recurves. A bit of clear nail polish held it in place after a bunch of half hitches.
