My thoughts on using the Lil Ambush as a mobile stand / platform hybrid. I think its a great option for under $200, but I also cover what changes I would love to see to make it perfect for me.

I know this is old but figured I'd try here before making another thread.
I've been trying to find some info on a guy who claims he did a few mods to the lil ambush. He claimed to have made it a 1 piece (easy enough), cut the brackets off then added a batwing and buttons(I'm undecided on that route), mod'ed the cables for leveling (i was going to try whoopie slings but that sounds like a pita), lastly added a clevis pin to lock the seat in the "hauling" position for packing. Have you (or anyone else) seen this info?

I read on a YouTube comment he supposedly added this info somewhere..
I've been staring at this thing off and on for months trying to decide which route would be best. I may call Matt for ideas.

I love the stand but it definitely has its shortcomings imo. Its unfortunate more people dont have one, maybe then we could get some ideas flowing on this thing.

I like mine as is but I use it as a gun stand. He should really change the advertised weight and he'd probably sell a few more. Mines 6 ¼ lbs vs his advertised 8.

Is that without the seat? Mine was 8.3# (133.79oz) butt naked out of the box. Still pretty dang good. The reason I decided to try the lil ambush as opposed to buying a $500 stand from the jump, was the smaller platform size and the 21" seat height. The narrow platform is easier to maneuver between limbs in some of the small pines I climb.

I cant say that I wont buy another stand (Im sure I will) but I am going to make some changes to the ambush in attempts to improve a few things it lacks (or more appropriately, that I desire). I'll report back here when i feel like I've accomplished those things, however right now I'm stuck on a good way to level the seat.

Also, something that most folks dont seem to care for I'd the 2 piece design. Admittedly, I was planning to bolt the seat to the post however after using it some, I think I prefer it the way it is. This may be due to the fact that I use bolts mostly so I'm not juggling 4 sticks PLUS the seat (that would probably be a little much), but only my bolt holster and the seat hanging from my saddle. More testing will definitely answer that for me.

Sorry for the late reply, switched to an EDP for most of my hunts. But I did take the stand out this last week and ended up tweaking it some afterwards. First there is nothing good to say about the straps and buckles the stand comes with. So I drilled through the seat bracket and added a bolt to permanently make it a 1 piece stand. The stand is so small and light a 2 piece is really unnecessary. Then I added a versa button an inch or so below the cables. I hung the stand this way and if you toe hook the stand it does dig in pretty solid. Little concerned about the seat to post attachment long term but I'll keep an eye on it. Finally I put a cam buckle with hooks for the bottom attachment. I will probably stick with the EDP to be honest, wish there was another option between the little ambush and the hush that still had the taller seat height.
